We operated ‘Hybrid’ meetings for six months but found virtual attendance rapidly dropped off. However, public face to face attendance at our meetings is now excellent and results in lively discussions on local issues. In September, John Gillingham received the Annual Parish Award in recognition of his dedication and time he has given in preparing and maintaining our cricket ground for more than 15 years. Well done John! In October the Planning Appeal for 36 houses at the top of Maplewell Road was approved. This outcome was bitterly disappointing particularly with the weight of objections from residents and the Parish Council. I'm sure many of our parishioners are frustrated at the Appeal decision which fundamentally succeeded because Charnwood Borough Council has fallen behind on the 5-year building land supply targets. However, our Neighbourhood Plan was approved by Referendum in October. It is to the credit of our Neighbourhood Plan Advisory group that Woodhouse Parish now has the only Plan within Charnwood which has a robust legal basis to defend against large scale inappropriate development. We anticipate that this should be able to protect the Parish from unwanted development until Charnwood re-establishes the 5 year housing land supply next year. It was amazing to see so many of our youth organisations and residents of the village come together with renewed enthusiasm for the Remembrance Sunday Parade in November and join in the 2-minute silence at the War Memorial. We were also delighted to welcome Finding Fitness to the Parish for their first week in the Easter Holidays. This Children’s Fitness Holiday Club was free to attend for local children and was funded by the National Lottery via a grant secured by the Parish Council. This has been a huge success and we look forward to the two further weeks booked out over the Summer holidays. I also look forward to our first Park Run to be held at Beacon Hill later this year, the Parish Council were pleased to provide a significant grant to help set up what I know will be a popular weekly event. Finally we would like to give a warm welcome to our new member of staff, Jan Halliday. Jan has taken up a new part time role of Bookings Administrator to manage our hall lettings. Finally, I would like to thank our Borough Councillor, David Snartt and our District Councillor, Deborah Taylor for their hard work and commitment. Of course I’d also like to thank the Parish Councillors, staff and parish volunteers for all their support over the past 12 months. In particular a special thank you to our Clerk, Emma Crowe, who does a fabulous job behind the scenes making all of this possible! ## **King George’s Field Charity** It’s been an exciting year for the Charity as long standing projects gather momentum. The Parish Council, Woodhouse Eaves Scouts and vital community volunteers have worked tirelessly towards replacing the Annexe with a fantastic new Community and Scout Hall. Planning permission has been granted and the final build specification is being completed with a contractor soon to be appointed. Fund raising efforts have been spectacular and all being well the build is expected to commence before the end of 2022. The new building is being designed specially to accommodate energetic play for the youth of the parish and fun indoor sports. In June we had major repair works carried out on the stonewalls around the carpark and children’s play area. After a successful negotiation with Leicestershire County Council we finally were able to have the K6 Footpath alongside the children’s play area re surfaced. Following the lifting of the majority of Covid restrictions, our three halls are very much back in use, almost back to pre covid levels. We are pleased to welcome again, Evington Lions and Maher’s cricket clubs who will be playing their home games in Woodhouse Eaves this summer. We wish them every success for a thriving season and encourage locals to stroll down and enjoy the sporting spectacle on our doorstep. We have also taken the first steps towards plans to relandscape parts of the play area (in front of the new Community and Scout Hall) and the area of undeveloped ground adjacent to the tennis courts, the vision being to create a communal ‘village green’ to benefit those of all ages in the Parish. ## **Peter Searancke, Chair 2021-2022** ## **Annual Financial Report 2021/22** At year end 31st March 2022, the overall bank balance was £94,617, an increase of £35,000 from last year, due to less spending. The Parish Council has given the Charity only £5000 to keep afloat this year, due to increased income for the Charity. This is great progress towards the Parish Council's goal of the Charity being financially independent in the long-term. Income for the 3 halls has increased to £36,000, which is still less than pre-pandemic, but a significant improvement from last year. Overall expenditure is down £40,000 from last year, as planned projects have taken longer to implement.
