Beer Village Heritage – Fine Foundation Centre Annual Report 1[st] November 2023 – 31[st] October 2024.
The Fine Foundation Centre building continues to be well used. We are grateful to those members who open the building each day and lock up at night. We also thank the members that give their time in maintaining and cleaning the building to keep it in good order for our visitors.
We held our usual activities with Fossil Fun, an educative activity for children during Beer Regatta, some rock pooling for families and several beach cleans. We manned a drinks station for the Axe Valley Runners’ Grizzly Run for which we received a donation of £824.00
During 2023 the trustees assessed the building to decide on maintenance and improvements. Stage one was to have the external walls cleaned and recoated with preservative. Quotations were sought and this work was completed by July 2024. Some repairs were made to the bannisters around the balcony. This last work was done by a member volunteer.
We were given a geology display cabinet by the Seaton Jurassic Centre. They transported the cupboard to us and it was installed by volunteer members.
During our 2023 review we also decided to act on the long discussed idea to invest in the reordering the inside of the building to give a better experience for visitors by renewing display material and the fish tanks. Getting quotations has proved difficult as there are a limited number of local firms and a lot of people wanting work done.
would not fill the tanks for summer 2024 and instead material was displayed within the tanks and on the outside of the glass. Quotations were sought for carpenters to remove the wooden fittings from the north end of the inside of the building. We hope to have quotations for work and other costings in place so that we can go inro 2025 getting the improvements done.
