Hereford Muheza Link Society

TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT AND ACCOUNTS 2022

1. INTRODUCTION

A key element of the Society’s work is the mutual exchange of visitors from and to Muheza in Tanzania. In 2022 Covid restricted exchange visits which have now recommenced in 2023. However, 2022 was an exceptional year for the charity with generous donations from a range of local bodies/charities including: CI Birane Foundation, C Champion Smith, Medicines for Muheza, M Pengilly, students and income from members subscriptions and activities. Total income was £77,558 (£43,229 in 2021). The most significant donations (noting that as a small charity all subscriptions are significant) were as follows:

£5,000 - CI Birane Foundation
£5,172 - Medical Students Donations to Education Fund
£2,267 - Membership and Members Contributions
£1,580 - Surgical Equipment Donations
£538 - Enthuse
£12,430 - Individual contributions to Hospice
£6,300 - Medicines for Muheza
£6,600 - M Pengilly
£20,000 - Doctors

The income has allowed the Charity to plan for future exchange visits of health workers between Herefordshire and Muheza District for study, teaching and clinical services. It has also allowed the range of actions to be maintained including utilising the Hospice donations for Hospice services at St Augustine’s Hospital in Muheza. Total expenditure was £50,776 (£34,439 in 2021). The main items of expenditure were as follows:

£48,260 - On Hospice care in Muheza
£2,316 - Medical courses for Muheza staff
