Objectives and Activities

Objects and Purpose

AMADET’s objects are:

(iii) the relief of poverty. The area of benefit is ‘Kenya’.

AMADET’s overall purpose is ‘Supporting Africans in mission’. All of our activities are undertaken to further our charitable purpose for the benefit of the public. The Trustees have had regard to Charity Commission guidance on public benefit in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006. The main benefits which have arisen during the year from the organisation’s aims are summarised in the following section on Achievements, Performance and Financial Review.

Achievements, Performance and Financial Review

AMADET continues to work hard to recruit supporters and donors, channelling resources for the work of Anglican Missioners of Africa (Church Army East Africa), and making this work more widely known. We are grateful to our donors who gave generously during 2022 despite the ongoing post-Covid challenges and the rising cost of living. Our total income for 2022 was £59,003 (2021: £38,745) with £17,150 from trusts, £28,737 from churches and £11,314 from individuals. We were able to reclaim Gift Aid of £1,802 thanks to people who Gift-Aided their donations.

Our total expenditure was £43,773 (2021: £50,397) of which £43,288 (2021: £50,008) was spent on charitable grants and £485 on governance and administration costs. Of the £43,288 grants, £41,079 of restricted income was given to Carlile College and the Centre for Urban Mission, mostly designated for student bursaries; £1,084 of restricted income was given to Church Army Africa; with £1,125 other restricted funds paid to various projects in Kenya as per donors’ wishes.

AMADET’s reserves policy is to apply funds as soon as possible after they are received and therefore to have the lowest possible level of reserves. As at 31 December 2022 reserves totalled £33,893 (2021: £18,663) of which £15,909 (2021: £11,531) was represented by ‘free reserves’ held in unrestricted funds.

We produced two newsletters in 2022, each distributed to our mailing list of about 85 supporters. The newsletter can also be viewed online at www.amadet.org.uk

Going concern

The charity has no employees and few expenses. Income during the first 7 months of 2023 has held up well. The Trustees are happy, therefore, to present these financial statements with no concerns as to the ongoing viability of the charity.

Prayer

We believe that ‘Supporting Africans in mission’ implies prayer and encouragement as much as financial support. Rejoice with us in what has been achieved, and please continue to pray with us in 2023 and beyond.

Declaration

The Trustees declare that they have approved the Trustees’ report above. Signed on behalf of the charity’s trustees:

Tim Dakin, Chair of Trustees. 28 August 2023

Independent Examiner's Report on the Accounts

Report to the trustees of Anglican Missioners of Africa Development and Education Trust (AMADET) on accounts for the year ended 31 December 2022.

Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Act and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts under section145 of the Act, to follow the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act, and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement

My examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent Examiner's Statement

In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which give me cause to believe that, in any material respect, the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act; or that the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or that the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and contents of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts show a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
