Donations are made following dirert approach to the trustee5 by various charitable causes. The intention of The Chllv
Foundation is to wpport ch3ritable participation of the famity and fr¢ends and work colleagues of the Chilton Family in
an organised and fair way. We do not gener31ty make donations following approach from general letters recelved
through the post, these requests are replied to with a letter explaining our wlicy.

Reserves pollcy
Srnce the Foundation exists to make grants out of avaiLible funds. the trustees consider it nerywry to retain only a
small balance on reserves to CO￿ the minimal annual administration costs. Further gr3nts will be made from
reserves carried forw3rd at the end of the financial period as suitable recipients a￿ identified. The balance and

Basi5 of preparing the finandal statements
The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefft entity under FRS 101 have been prepared in
accordance with the Charities SORP IFRS 1021 'Accounting and Reporttng by Chartties.. Ststemènt of
Recommended Prdttice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial
Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 1021 leffectwe l January 20191,. Financial
RÈporting Standard 102 The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republit of Ireland, and thè
Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepaied under the hi51orical cost convention.
Income
All income is recognised in the Sttterr￿t of Financial Actiwties once the charity has entitlement to the funds.
it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured ￿liab1v.
Expendlture
Liabilities a￿ recognised as expenditure as s￿n as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the
charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement
and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on on accruals basis
and has been classified under heading5 that aggregate all cost related to the cate80ry. Where costs cannot be
directly attributed to parttcular headings they have been allorated to ￿tI￿￿e$ on a basi5 corsistent with the
use ol resources.
Grant5 offered subject to conditions which h￿e not been met at the yearend date are noted as a commitment
but not accrued as expenditure.

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable actwriie

Unrestrirted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objethves at the discretion of the trustees.
Restrirted funds can onEy be used for particular restricted purposes wlthin the objects of the charlty.
Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restrirted purposes.

Finanrial instruments
The charity onty enters into transactions involving basic financial instruments that resu￿ in the recognitlon of
financial assets and liabilities like trade and otheraccounts receNable and payable.
Debt instruments that are payable L* re￿1¥able within one year. typically trade payables or receivables, are
measured. initially and 5ub5equently. at the undiscounted arSMJunt of the cash or other consbderation,
expected to be pald or recefved.
Financial assets that are measured at Cost are a55e55ed at the end of each reportsn8 period for objective
evidence of impairrnent. If objertive evidence of impairment Is found, an impairnient Ioss is recogni5ed in the
Statement of Financial ACtI￿ties.
Where financial assets are measured at (ost le55 impairnient. the impairn)ent loss ￿ measured as the
difference between an asset's carying amount and best estimate, whith is an approximation of the amount
that the charity would receive for the asset rf it We￿ to be sold at the ￿pOrting date.
