Welcome

Welcome to our 2022 annual report. In 2022 we returned to being able to operate in pre-pandemic ways although the shadow of the pandemic hung over us in terms of our reduced capacity. This was largely due to the staffing changes we saw during the pandemic and learning to operate within the current limitations. If 2020 and 2021 were shaped by the pandemic then 2022 was shaped by the war in Ukraine. A large part of the year saw us offering practical support to those caught up in the humanitarian tragedies that are commonplace in a war scenario. The staffing continued to be myself and Benjamin Donohoe and Barry McMullen joined our trustee team. In addition we started the progress of developing a core leadership team. Our finances remained stable although there was an increase due to the conflict in Ukraine.

Once again a massive thank you to everyone who has stood with us and supported us over the last 12 months.

Church Planting and Evangelism

In 2022 all our UK Churches had reverted to in person meetings and had seen growth numerically. In addition our pastoral teams were active in providing practical help and support. The Churches in Radcliffe and Llangollen continued to carry out building work on their respective properties with positive improvements being made. As the year progressed our Radcliffe Church saw the Church building being used by Narcotics Anonymous, Cubs, Drama groups and locally run ESOL lessons and therapeutic art classes. The ESOL lessons made a massive difference to asylum seekers and refugees arriving in Radcliffe. The Church also formed a positive relationship with Laoghina Church a Brazilian ex pat group. City Church Llangollen further developed their online mission channel with a wide range of content and also continued with the food bank helping those suffering from food poverty. Hope of Life continue to worship out of Radcliffe and Barry and Susan McMullen are continuing to invest in the Great Lever community.

World Mission

International travel started to pick up in 2022 and saw Mark visiting Poland and Switzerland. In Poland we have forged links with City of Saints Church in Warsaw which helped thousands of people fleeing the war in Ukraine. We also supported our connections in Ukraine covering the towns in Uzhgorod, Lutsk, Kremenchuk, Sumy and Kharkiv. We also supported House of Mercy and Way to Life Ministries in Estonia as they cared for Ukrainian refugees. In May Kerstin Obermann visited Estonia to help Way to Life in their ministry. October saw Paul Duckworth visiting Indonesia where he worked with Firly Lalujan from CWM Manado.

We have continued to support the health clinic and school in the community of Buwasunguyi, Uganda and have made progress with the building of the maternity clinic. This has all been affected by various lockdowns in Uganda and the remote nature of Buwasunguyi. In addition the work of Hannahs children’s home in Malawi has been stable throughout 2022 with the children continuing to flourish.

Training and church unity

In 2022 we resumed with a full program of Elevate leaders running every 2 months. The numbers attending was spasmodic ranging from almost 30 down to 10. We had our 21+1 celebration where around 75 people attended.

We were blessed by the presence of our good friends Kim Torp ( Denmark) and Alidi Mpateya ( South Africa).

Conclusion

2022 was another year where things were greatly affected by the shadow of the changes we saw in the pandemic and the Ukraine war. We continued to work and make a difference at home and abroad. This was all made possible by the faithfulness of our supporters.
