GrassRoots Rwanda Accounts for the period ending 31 March 2025. www.grassrootsrwanda,com Charity Number 1086330 email.. info@grassrootswanda.com

Report of the Trustees for year ending March 2025 We have welcomed two new trustees, Emile Pinco and Caroline Gainey who have joined Peter Muir, Greg Moss and Paul Reynolds in administering the charity. Both new trustees are active members of St Michael's in Bishops Cleeve and we look forward to good times with them. We were very saddened by the death of Mary Hughes in August 25, a real prayer warrior who will be very much missed at our meetings. Our prayers go out to her family. Our main aim remains the same and is to "help the poorest communities living far from the tarmac road" Several years ago, the government announced that all church buildings in Rwanda must adhere to new standards, including brick roofs, toilet facilities, car parks and to show a contribution to community wellbeing. In 2024 and 2025, they started to enforce these restrictions and as a consequence, around 7,000 churches and chapels were closed and will not be allowed to re-open until those standards have been met. They are administered and interpreted by the local government. GrassRoots has been alarmed at such closures and wanted to assist in the reopening, even at the cost of slightly moving our focus in the short term. What swayed us was that the church is often the only public building in a village, where the pre-school, the mothers, and fathers, unions meet, and of course the many choirs. So much of church life would have been disrupted, and pastors, who still rely in part on the weekly collections, were beginning to suffer. We sent over £14,000 for the diocese to use at their discretion to re-open church buildings. We are delighted that that the Diocese has put this money to good use. We received a response from Arch-deacon Venent saying: l am pleased to share that there has been encouragin8 progress at the Church of Karama. The plastering work has been completed, and the pavement is being finalized this week. The parishioners are now moving forward with glazing, painting, and installing the water harvesting system. He also says there is encouraging progress at Nyabinoni Church. The roofing work and the installation of doors and windows have been completed. Plastering is currently in progress, with three walls finished so far. We have received other messages concerning the work done at other churches and we are pleased with the progress the diocese has made. Along with churches, the usual work of supporting other building work carry on - for example the pre-school in Shyogwe Diocese where funds have been used for the construction of a building for the Sunday School and Pre-school at Munazi Parish. The three- classroom building is now roofed, and the installation of windows and doors is currently in progress.

In March, Trustee Greg Moss visited Rwanda to attend the consecration of the new Bishop, Louis Pasteur Kabayiza and we are looking forward to hosting the Bishop for a visit in the last week of January 2026- visa permitting. We have continued to support the Dufantanye Project sending restricted contributions donated by supporters. In 2025, we have sent £2,000 so far. They say Today, we celebrate God's goodness through your generosity.. &640 children received school supplies 28 children had their schoolfees paid, from primary, to secondary, vocational, and even universlty Because of yourfaithful support, vulnerable children Gre remaining in school, families are finding relief, and thanksgiving is rising from many lips. We give speciol thanks to our beloved partners including GrossRoots Rwanda, for standing with us. As Poul reminds us, You will be enriched in every woy so that YOU CL7n be generous on every occasion, ond through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God." 2 Corinthians 9.'11'. We remain delighted to support this project. In the last twelve months GrassRoots have been able to contribute to the following causes: Paying school fees for Jean de Dieu, son of the security guard at the bishop's compound. We have supported this child for many years and have one family giving on a regular basis to allow him to continue with his education. He has just started secondary school. £7,000 for training for pastors. The government has stated that only those with a theology degree can preach, so there has been many pastors going through college. However, the fees were outstandin8 and the college was now allowing them to graduate until the fees were paid. This gift largely paid for the outstandin8 fees allowing them to graduate and lead their church. £14,000 to help bring the churches up to the standard required by the government as noted above £3,200 for supporting health projects £400 for Nyarugenge parish We would like to thank all the donors for their continued generosity which allows us to support those most need in need in Rwanda. Your gifts have never been more important as the Diocese goes through extensive change, some via government decree, some internally as the new bishop looks to re-order work priorities.
