Objectives and Activities
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document |
Para 1.17 | The purpose of the charity is the advancement of amateur rugby, promoting health and wellbeing by involving young members from all parts of the community in physical education and development of mental skills, which are undertaken on an amateur basis within a rugby setting. The club introduces players to all aspects of rugby showing that it is not just a physical game but also has a strong social side. Players are made aware that all visiting teams who are opponents on the pitch become their guest after the game, and as such should be treated with the respect that also goes for fellow teammates, coaches and match officials. |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
As a grass roots club we endeavor to extend a warm and welcoming atmosphere to players and supporters and have a reputation as a ‘friendly’ Club providing excellent hospitality and a ‘USP’ of Rugby for All, within the surrounding community. The aim of the club is to offer children and young people of all abilities the opportunity and facilities to learn, play and improve both their understanding and enjoyment of the game of rugby union. This is achieved in a structured and safe environment. Each age group is coached by a group of volunteer coaches, with a lead coach and first aider. This is governed by a club coach facilitator volunteer, a rugby safe volunteer and a safeguarding team who volunteer. All volunteer coaches have been police checked and are actively encouraged to attend RFU coaching courses and CPD’s to increase their knowledge and qualifications, also enablingthem topass |

| Contribution made by volunteers |
Para 1.38 | Volunteers continue to make a significant impact to the lives of our young people during the 23/24 season ensuring the physical activities were delivered at the hub both on and off the pitches to ensure members have access to rugby in some form. The volunteers have continued to create a secure environment to enable the club to carry on with its activities regardless of the weather. |

Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | The charity has maintained the numbers of young people engaged within physical education within Eastleigh Community and its surrounding areas. Girls Rugby continues to grow slowly, with new members. This promotes the progression to the ladies team. The introduction of reduced fees for those families that are struggling financially was introduced. Following the cost of living crisis period some families have found it a challenge, as a club we have endeavoured to keep the young people playing. |

| Achievements against objectives set |
Para 1.41 | The Junior Club has completed all of its objectives this season, with a complete return to normality with all age groups having full training sessions throughout the year. One volunteer has stood down during the season, however replacement volunteers have been successfully recruited for the 23/24 season where a strong committee will be in place, with additional volunteers taking up other roles. Dylan Chandler, Paul Tiler, Kirsty Bridges and Andy Browning will remain as trustees with no further electees. The club house and pitches at Bishopstoke Playing Fields are in good condition in the main, with only a couple of weekends being lost to poor weather causing the pitches to flood, however, these were mitigated by the use of the AWP in the sports complex. The club have worked closelywith the |

Environment Agency and Eastleigh Borough Council to repair the breaches in the River Itchen which runs alongside the playing fields, which was causing issues with flooding and access to pitches. All repairs to the riverbank are now complete but the fourth pitch is still not usable. The club maintains its links with Harlequins Rugby Club as one of its affiliated community clubs, however due to cutbacks at Harlequin’s RFC, this has been limited despite efforts on our part and our affiliation will be reviewed next season. The Summer touch sessions have been the most successful so far with over 130 participants regularly attending the sessions. The club has continued success with the girls at ages U12’s, U14’s and U16’s increasing the playing opportunity locally. They combine with Winchester to train to make the numbers more competitive. New playing kit has been procured for the use of members, this includes shirts, balls, tackle pads and other coaching aids to reflect current coaching techniques. We have held a number of end of seasons awards evenings in person and we are planning further social events going forward.
