- TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT 2020 2021

1. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we have been asked not to run our night shelters in Bracknell and in Wokingham by Public Health England. So fourteen venues have been closed down.

2. The Church of England has closed down its Church buildings, so we had to cease our Drop-In. Also many of us and our volunteers have had to shield.

3. At the end of August we decided to reopen our Drop-In at St Andrew’s church as such activities are exempt from some of the Covid-19 Regulations. However this was not clear cut so we transferred the Thursday Drop-In to the Bracknell Methodist Church in Priestwood.as they were most happy for us to do that and were most welcoming to us.. We opened at the start of September and have been in action ever since. The Monday was changed back to a Tuesday as the coffee morning has been closed down by the pandemic.

4. Since reopening the Drop-In we have been supported by the medical team from the Berkshire Primary Care which consists of a Doctor, nurse and practice manager.

5. We acquired a five seater crew van which is fully glazed all round due to match funding on some of our grant applications. This was immediately in use moving furniture for people and picking up those who need emergency transport plus moving material between our various stores and buildings.

6. In order to protect as many people as possible we have been able to vaccinate all our volunteers and all the homeless people who visit us for help. It was decided to give the second vaccination within a few weeks due to the roving nature of the homeless to ensure the safety of all who come into contact with them.

7. One of the problems has been the reluctance of older volunteers to continue during this pandemic and so we have tried to recruit new younger volunteers. We have been most blessed with newly retired people and those on furlough to keep going.

8. At present we are assured that night shelters will not be needed as the government have funded the local councils to set up “rough sleeping teams” Note:- our first night shelter manager was appointed to head up the Wokingham Borough Council’s team.

9. We have not yet got the use of the old vicarage from St Michael’s Church Easthampstead, as it is still occupied. However, we will continue to investigate to obtain suitable accommodation at a reasonable cost, in a convenient location.

10. We have set up an 0800 (number 0800 121 4121) to provide a free advice help and support line for those who wish to seek our help without incurring call charges. This is proving to be a most useful addition to our services.

11. We are continuing with our mentorship programme have obtained a grant to do so.

12. We have taken on additional storage at Access Storage Bracknell due to the volume of goods needing to be stored for use by our clients.

13. The accounts for the year were approved and will be sent for independent inspection.
