AFC Corsham Annual Report for the year ended 31 May 2022 Registered Charity Number: 1085733

## **Annual Report**

A.F.C. Corsham, Leafy Lane, Box, Corsham is registered with the Charity Commission (No. 1085733)

The charity is managed by an executive committee, comprising:

|Chairman|-|S Bray|
|---|---|---|
|Deputy Chairman|-|J Edmund|
|Secretary|-|C Smith|
|Treasurer|-|L Derrick|
|Child Welfare|-|A Hancock|
|Other Members|-|A Simpson|
|||J Corbett|
|||S Nash|
|||B Mitchell|
|||A Bewley|
|||K Pickering|

The object of the charity is to advance the education and physical development of children from 5 to 17 years of age by providing the facilities and opportunities to play football and the provision of training to become referees, coaches, and leaders.

The club now has just over 400 active members across 30 teams under all age groups.

The 2021/22 season was always anticipated to be a period of investment for the club following the return to football after Covid-19. This is reflected in both the significant asset purchases in part funded through grant awards and more than doubling of spend on playing kit. 2021/22 also saw the return of the annual tournament which contributed a profit despite being held later in the year. Membership levels increased which allowed for the creation of additional teams or meant waiting lists appearing. The season also saw the return of various organised trips to local and national games. The club therefore remains in a healthy position.

At the end of the year the unreserved general fund stood at £25,665 (2021, £27,115) which was satisfactory. The reserved fund remains at £12,000.

L A Derrick FCCA, Treasurer

For and on behalf of the Executive Committee.

## **Notes to the accounts**

## **1** _**Principal accounting policies**_

## _Basis of preparing the financial statements_

The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

## _Going Concern_

The Trustees have considered the financial position of the Charity and have concluded they are able to meet their liabilities as they fall due for the foreseeable future. For these purposes the foreseeable future is taken to mean a period of 12 months from the date of approval of these accounts. In coming to this conclusion, the trustees have evaluated the impact of the ongoing economic uncertainties on revenues and expenditure.

## _Income_

All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received, and the amount can be measured reliably.

## _Expenditure_

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings, they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

## _Equipment_

Equipment is stated at cost less accumulated depreciation. Where parts of an item of equipment have different useful lives, they are accounted for as separate items of equipment.

Depreciation is charged on a straight-line basis over the estimated useful lives of each part of an item of equipment. The estimated useful lives are as follows:

Equipment 3-5 years

Depreciation methods, useful lives and residual values are reviewed at each balance sheet date.

## _Deferred grants and contributions_

Grants and contributions in respect of specific expenditure on equipment are treated as contract liability and recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities over the expected useful economic lives of the related assets.

## _Taxation_

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

## _Fund accounting_

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes. Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.
