‘Light for the Blind’ St Joseph’s Hospices Helping the Blind and Dying Destitute of South India U.K. Registered Charity No. 1085698

## **CHAIR'S REPORT 2021**

'Light for the Blind' was constituted as a Charitable Trust in August 2000 in the City of Leeds. Its main objective is to raise funds for Fr Thomas Rathapillil's hospices for the dying destitute in Tamil Nadu, South India.

This year the hospices have continued to experience unprecedented difficulties, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, by means of stringent lockdown procedures, all patients and Staff have been kept safe from infection. All new patients are required to test negative before admission, followed by isolation before joining the wider community.

Finances remain steady despite the obstacle of limited appeals both here and in India, and we give thanks to all our donors who have continued to support our work. Construction of the Vellore hospice continues, with firm plans in place for the foundation of the new Chennai North hospice in early 2022.

Finally, we also thank our indomitable trustees and distinguished patrons for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
