Annual Report for the year ending 31 March 2025
Shree Sukhpur Earthquake Relief Trust is constituted by Deed of Trust and is a registered charity, No. 1085396. The Charity address is at 59 Mount Pleasant Road, Chigwell, Essex IG7 5EP. The charity trustees during the year to 31 March 2024 were:
Mr Lalji Velji Bhudia (Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary) Mr Devshi Kanji Velani Mr Premji Lalji Hirani (Vice-Chairman) Mr Devshi Gopal Naran Mr Hirji Lalji Bhudia Mr Umesh Premji Patel Mr Gopal Kanji Naran Mr Ramesh Hirji Vekariya
The charity was registered on 6 March 2001 following the devastating earthquake in Bhuj on 26 January 2001, which destroyed approximately 90% of Sukhpur. The object of the charity is to relieve distress caused by the earthquake in Sukhpur, Bhuj, Gujarat, India on 26 January 2001. The purpose is to use the funds to relieve those who may need help whether now or in the future because of this tragedy, with special consideration being given to orphans, the elderly and people who are with disability.
The charity is continuing with its objectives of providing long-term assistance through SSERT Hospital in Sukhpur by providing basic GP doctor services 24/7. The Physio, Dental service and Medical Store are open during hospital opening times and in emergency if required. We are also making donation to the Sukhpur Tiffin Service to provide 2 meals daily free or partly paid every day to the needy people in the town. The hospital is still providing a valuable service to the local community and the surrounding towns. The committee and the trustees are happy with the service it is providing. We have set up Dental clinic from April 2018 with a fulltime dentist employed. The Hospital has been operating for 22 years and we celebrated its 20[th] year anniversary by providing 3 days of fully free medical camp in December 2022. The hospital is providing vital service to the community surrounding Sukhpur.
We have renovated the Physio department and increased patient area as Physio department is in high demand and used by many patients every day. We have added more treatment sections with privacy curtains and new modern bathroom for patients use and wheel chair ramp from the front entrance to Physio department.
The charity is still running completely on interest and the income generated by the Hospital, Medical Store and Physio department. The trustees believe that whilst the charity is able to support itself there is no need to generate any additional funds in UK.
We covered the front part of the hospital building with metal frame and fibre glass roof to keep the sun and rain away from the building entrance and updated the ramp with improved access to the hospital entrance. We will continue with further improvements as required.
The current 8 trustees are working together well. When they go to India, they make time to visit the SSERT Hospital in Sukhpur and check the Hospital is running well and if any equipment or maintenance work is required with the management.
Lalji Velji Bhudia 7th December 2025 On behalf of the board of trustees
