Warrington u3a Chainnan's report 2022-23 My year as Chair seems to have gone very quickly. After nine years working on the committee in various role51 have learnt to expett the unexpected and was certainly not disappointed this year. Within days of being appointed the committee faced major problems with many groups having to move venue when we started back in September and all the issues that involves. The pandemic was (and is) still lingering on and affecting everyday life, war in the Ukraine was in its early stsges and unbeknownst to us the economy was about to crash. Through all of this our membership has steadily continued to grow back towards pre-pandemic levels. Enrolment day proved to be an interesting challenge with Tea and Coffee mysteriously unavailable (long story) and a large proportion of the membership tuming up all at once (early as is traditional with Wu3a members !) November saw our first Group Leaders meeting for three years which proved very SUC￿SSfUl in allowing leaders to share experiences and offer practical advi￿ on the dayto day running of groups. Ongoing economic problems duringthe last year have led to costs increasing at all ourvenues with some struggling to survive. The committee have worked hard across the year to lower the impact on our yearly rnembership5 fees but inevttably it will have to increase for 2023-24 and some compromises will have to be made. We have continued trying to attract more members by the use of posters in shops libraries and Post Offices etc as well as linking to other local agencies and the press. Word of muth is still, however. the most common way people hear about us. Communication has improved across the year and thank5 to our Facebook page Warrington u3a Forum. many members are sharing their experiences in groups and advertisingtrips, Tneetings and holidays etc to about 17% of our membership { about ItY/o regularly attend the monthly meetings ,but we have no way of telling how many actually read emails sent out). Some of our groups have continued to use Zoom in hybrid meetings (members who cannot attend in person joining group activities over Zoom or where a speaker has talked to a group using Zoom) and we sttll ￿taIn a Zoom licen￿ next year. In another innovation some groups have shared speakers where topics overlap such as the talk about Warrington arttst Eric Tucker arranged by the Family History group. This was opened up to the Art and Art appreciation groups and proved very successfvl. As usual there has been some ebb and flow in the groups that we have on offer, with some disappearing and others popping up to replace them such as Rumikub, the Brass Group and Sea shanties(starting in September). With over fifty groups from Art through to Weekend Supper Club and short courses such as Ukelele learning and Creative Photography for Beginners we have maintsined a very wide range of opportunities on offerthis year. For those of us who like to get out and about Awayday have been able to offer a wide variety of trips and local activities along with a holiday to Bristol,Bath and Wells .Garden Interest has continued offering day trips and a holiday to Wales this year while the Walking Group holiday was in Malham in 2023 and have offered weekly walks in the local a￿a. Egyptology visited the Golden Mummies in Manchester this year and Photography have held photoshoots in Liverpool, New Brighton and Quarry Bank Mill.

Warrington u3a Chainnan's report 2022-23 Monthly meetings have been well attended this year and memter5 have enjoyed the usual eclectic mix of talks ranging from 'SnoWdrOp￿ through to a live singing group 'Fool's Gold, with their interestingly titled 'Bang up to the Elephanvs Ear 'show. I would like to thankthe members of the Executive Committee who have made my job (relatively) easy this year with their continued support and all the Group leaders (and their helpers) for the excellent work they do in keeping their groups going and enjoying the activities they offer. I'd also like to thankthose people behind the s￿neS who do such a good job in maintsining our u3a including Alan Goodkin's sterling work in maintsining our website (despite the Third age trust crashing it and almost losing all our data earlierthis year) and David Rowleyfor setting up and moderating our Fa￿book page 'Warrington u3a Forum.. Last. but not least, I'd like to thank my wife Sara for her tireless support and advi￿ this year! Sadly for me it 15 time to hand overthe reins to my SuC￿S0r Eion MacDonald and wish him and the team good luck in continuing to guide Warrington u3a through interesting times,.
