This**<br>**huge Corporate event attracted the**<br>**support of many successful businesses**<br>**who gave their time, expertise and**<br>**money to help us raise over £140K!!**<br>**There is still more to come over the next**|





**year as several of the auction prizes have not yet been arranged and paid for. This includes two rounds of golf with Alan Shearer and Jeremy Kyle at two of the north east’s most prestigious golf courses and a visit to St James’ Park to watch Newcastle United in a private box with Alan Shearer.  Mr Shearer’s diary is jam packed so these events are taking a bit of organising but we will reap the benefits in our 2025 accounts. Once expenses such as paying for the Band, P.A. systems and auctioning system etc. had been paid for, we were able to boost our Dream Big project to the tune of £120k to enable us to grow our services to the pupils and local disabled community. The evening itself was dazzling, with many fantastic prizes donated to raffle and auction, a wonderfully dressed room and dance floor, provided at cost price by Gateshead Newcastle Hilton and entertainment by the band ‘Hip Operation’ was a hit with everyone on the dance floor. The hard work and effort was truly worth it and we can’t thank Rob, the Hilton and a wrath of businesses for making it such a massive success. One of Hadrian School’s long serving governors, Tommy Thompson, sadly passed away this year and we were kindly bequeathed almost £50,000 from his estate.  Tommy was a huge supporter of Friends of Hadrian and his legacy will support our dream big project, specifically being used to equip the café part of the project. One of our parents who has recently trained to become a florist kindly held a wreath making workshop for parents staff and friends this Christmas.  This proved very popular and raised almost £700 and we plan to repeat this next year. Our treasurer has been maximising bank interest returns this year by moving most of the charity monies into our saving account earning £6830 in interest. We have still not received our new mini bus from The Variety Club as they continue to look for a sponsor but we are hopeful that this will be available in 2025.**

## **Structure, Governance and Management** 

Friends of Hadrian School is a registered charity (number 1085068) unincorporated association and was registered with the Charity Commission on 19th February 2001. 

It is governed by its constitution adopted 15 November 1999 as amended on 16 January 2001. 

Trustees are elected to the board which currently comprises seven members. 

## **Objectives and Activities** 

To enhance the education of the pupils and ex pupils of Hadrian School and young adults with disabilities in the local community by providing or assisting in the provision of educational, recreational and other charitable facilities not normally provided by the Local Authority. 

We adopt the two Principles of Public Benefit and can demonstrate this by analysis of our achievements over the last year, which benefitted 170 children with severe, profound and complex’ learning difficulties. This year, we have continued our ‘Dream Big’ fundraising campaign to build a new hydrotherapy pool and massage therapy space joining our Rebound Therapy Centre which is to benefit the whole school and local disabled community. I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity ("the Trust") for the year ended 31st December 2024. 

## **Responsiblities and Basis of Report** 

As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act"). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b)  of the Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

## **Structure, Governance and Management** 

Friends of Hadrian School is a registered charity (number 1085068) unincorporated association and was registered with the Charity Commission on 19th February 2001. 

It is governed by its constitution adopted 15 November 1999 as amended on 16 January 2001. 

Trustees are elected to the board which currently comprises seven members. 

## **Objectives and Activities** 

To enhance the education of the pupils and ex pupils of Hadrian School and young adults with disabilities in the local community by providing or assisting in the provision of educational, recreational and other charitable facilities not normally provided by the Local Authority. 

We adopt the two Principles of Public Benefit and can demonstrate this by analysis of our achievements over the last year, which benefitted 170 children with severe, profound and complex’ learning difficulties. This year, we have continued our ‘Dream Big’ fundraising campaign to build a new hydrotherapy pool and massage therapy space joining our Rebound Therapy Centre which is to benefit the whole school and local disabled community. We have also organised several events such as Sponsored Walks, Bonfire Night Display, Christmas Fayre which has enabled the school and their families to socialise together and support each other. We also received a grant of £25,000 from the James Knott Trust towards our Dream Big project last year. 

The Trustees of the Friends of Hadrian School have read and taken into account the Charity Commission’s guidance on Public Benefit when planning activities, raising funds and providing equipment and resources for the pupils of Hadrian School. 

In particular, we support the: 

- ‘Advancement of education’ 

- ‘Relief of those in need, by reasons of youth, age, ill health or other disadvantage’. 

Please refer to the ‘Achievments and Performance’ section of this report for further details of how our work has impacted and benefitted both pupils and families 

## **Achievements and Performance** 

Our sponsored Christmas Elf day raised over £3500 with children participating in a sponsored walk around the school grounds dressed in elf hats receiving a medal as their reward at the end.  As this has proved to be a popular event, we have introduced a sponsored Easter Bonnet Parade which raised £1,400.  All children received an Easter Bunny medal and an Easter egg as a reward, the eggs being donated by Blakelaw Club and Stagecoach Newcastle. 

This year, our over 16’s ‘Friends @ Hadrian Disco’ raised £675. 

Our Rob Armstrong Ball at the Hilton was by far the biggest and best evening we have ever organised. It was a mammoth task for the Trustees and staff who offered their services. This huge Corporate event attracted the support of many successful businesses who gave their time, expertise and money to help us raise over £140K!!

There is still more to come over the next year as several of the auction prizes have not yet been arranged and paid for.  This includes two rounds of golf with Alan Shearer and Jeremy Kyle at two of the north east’s most prestigious golf courses and a visit to St James’ Park to watch Newcastle United in a private box with Alan Shearer.  Mr Shearer’s diary is jam packed so these events are taking a bit of organising but we will reap the benefits in our 2025 accounts. Once expenses such as paying for the band, P.A. systems and auctioning system etc. had been paid for, we were able to boost our Dream Big project to the tune of £120k to enable us to grow our services to the pupils and local disabled community. The evening itself was dazzling, with many fantastic prizes donated to raffle and auction, a wonderfully dressed room and dance floor, provided at cost price by Gateshead Newcastle Hilton and entertainment by the band ‘Hip Operation’ was a hit with everyone on the dance floor. The hard work and effort was truly worth it and we can’t thank Rob, the Hilton and a wrath of businesses for making it such a massive success. 

One of Hadrian School’s long serving governors, Tommy Thompson, sadly passed away this year and we were kindly bequeathed almost £50,000 from his estate.  Tommy was a huge supporter of Friends of Hadrian and his legacy will support our dream big project, specifically being used to equip the café part of the project. 

One of our parents who has recently trained to become a florist kindly held a wreath making workshop for parents staff and friends this Christmas.  This proved very popular and raised almost £700 and we plan to repeat this next year. 

Our treasurer has been maximising bank interest returns this year by moving most of the charity monies into our saving account earning £6830 in interest. 

We have still not received our new mini bus from The Variety Club as they continue to look for a sponsor but we are hopeful that this will be available in 2025. 

## **Financial Review** 

During the financial period this report covers, the Charity’s: 

Income was £224,947 

Expenditure was £26,498 

Monies carried forward from previous year: £399,403 

Cash funds for the Year end were £597,852, of which £38,488 is unrestricted general funds and 559,364 is Restricted. 

The Trustees consider that the Friends of Hadrian require reserves to: 

• Provide funds which can be designated to specific projects for the benefit of the pupils as and when they arise, and to enable these projects to be undertaken at short notice. 

• To save a sum of money with the long term aim of purchasing for the pupils a large piece of equipment or resource, e.g replacing a mini bus for instance. 

To ensure the Friends have the reserves, in the event of fundraising not covering the necessary amount, to provide Christmas treats and classroom treats for the following year.

As a Charity relying mainly on small, individual donations, grants and fundraising events as its source of funding, it is difficult to be prescriptive with regard to the amount of reserves the organisation will be in a position to hold. We consider that we have a simple, stable pattern of receipts and payments, little susceptibility to outside influences, and minimal risk of serious disruption to its charitable work. Taking these factors into account, the Trustees have agreed to keep reserves of at least £2500 for the coming year. This amount will be reviewed regularly during the next financial year, and evaluated in light of any future needs, opportunities or risks which may arise during this period.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity ("the Trust") for the year ended 31st December 2024. 

## **Responsiblities and Basis of Report** 

As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act"). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b)  of the Act. 

## **Independent Examiner's Statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
