The Trustees present their annual report together the financial statements of the Charty for the peri¢)d from

Objectives and activities

The Charty awards grants on the basis of applications received and reviewed against specific criteria and
objectives sel by the Trustees. These are often in relation lo education and human and animal welfare.
In carying out their dLrties, the Trustees have had due regard for the Charity Commission's revised guidance in
respect of public benefit.

During the year, the Charity awarded grants of £37,45012025.' £88,448).
In 2015 the Charity merged Leicestershire First Limited. a Chawitable Company ￿1¢h The Maurice & Vivien
Thompson Char(table Trust funded from its incepb'on. The two charities have overlapping objectives and the
Trustee$ of The MaLJrice & Vivien Thompson Charitable Trusl intend to continue to promote the objectives of
Leicestershire First Limited.
b. Investment pollcy and perfomian¢¢
The Trustees ensure that funds are invested in line wth the objects of the Char-ty a5 noted above. Investments
are held in an Independendy managed portfolio. During the year. the investments generated income of £54,4S4

a. Going concern
After making appropriate enquiries, the Tw$tee$ have a reasonable expe¢tab'on that the Charty has adequate
resources to continue in operats'onal existence foc the foreSeea￿e future. For this reason, they continue to adopt
the going concern basis in preparing the financial statements. Further details regarding the adoption of the going
concern basis can be found in the accounting pc4icies.

The Trustees are intending lo build up the expendable en￿O￿ent fund as circumstances allow and therefore to
increase the regular investment income lo enaNe grants to be made each year.
The total funds at the year end ￿tre £3,555.202 12025.. £2,986.1651 of ￿1¢h £3,183.308 12025.. £2.825,8691
were made up of endowment funds.
The free reserves of the Charity at the year end %%ere £371.89412025.. £360.2961 which are represented by the

under a Trust deed.

There shall be at least three Trustees. Every future Trustee shall be appointed by a resolution of the Trustees
passed at a special meeting. The Trustees shall hobd at least ordinary meets'n9s in each year.

The Truylees have as$e35ed the major risks to ￿lch the Charity 1$ exp05ed, in particular those related to the
operations and finances of the Chanty, and are sab"sfie(I that systems and procedures are in place lo miligale
exposure lo the major risks.
Plans for future periods
The Trustees are intending to build up the expendable endowment fund as circumstances allow and therefore to
increase the regular investment income to enable grants to be made each year.

The Maurice & Vivien Thompson Trust is a Charity registered with the Chanty Commission, No 1085041.
The Charity awards grants on the basis ol applications received and reviewed against spe¢ifi¢ criteria and
objectives set by the Trustees. These are often in relation to educatson and human and animal welfare.
Accounting policiès
2.1 8asis of proparation of financial statemonts
The financial slalemenls have been prepa￿d in accordance wth the charib.es SORP IFRS 1021
Accounting and Reporting by Charities". Stalement of Recommended Practice applicable lo charities
preparing their accounts in accordance wth the Financial Reportin9 Standard applicable in the UK
and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 leffecbve 1 January 20191, the Financial Repcsrting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 and the Charits'es Act 2011.
The financial statements have been prepared to give a Irue and fail view and have departed from
the Charities IAccounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only lo the extent required lo provide a Irue
and fairf view. This departure has involved followng the Charities SORP IFRS 1021 published in
October 2019 rather than the Accounting and Reporting by Charitie5.' Statement of Recommended
Practice effective from 1 April 2005 vthich has Sin￿ been withdrawn.
The Maurice & Viwen Thompson Charitable Tnjsl meets the definition of a public benefit entity under
FRS 102. Assets and liabllrties a￿ initsally recognised al historic￿ cost or transaction value unless
otherwise $tsted in the relevant awunling poliw.

income wll be received and the amount of income receivable can be measured reliably.

2.4 Expgnditure
Expenditure is recogni3ed once there 15 a legal OT constructive obligats.on lo transfer economic benefit

the amount of the obligation can be measured celiably. Expenditure is dassified by activity. The costs
of each activity are made up of the total of direct costs and shared costs, including support costs
involved in undertaking each acb'vity. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly
lo that activity. Shared costs which contnbule lo more than one activity and support costs which are
not attributable to a single activity are apportioned be￿een those activities on a basis consistent with
the use of resources. Central stsff costs are allocated on the basis of tsme spent, and depreciats'on
charges allocated on the portion of the asset's use.
Expenditure on raising funds indude$ all expenditure incurred by the Charity to raise funds for its
charitable purposes and indudes costs of all fundraising acts'vth'es events and nOn￿ha￿tabIe trading.
Expenditure on chantatrle adivthes is in¢urred on difeclly undertaking the aclivrties vh)ich further the
Charity's objectives, as well as any associated support costs.
Grants payable are charged in the year when the offer is made except in those cases where the offer
is conditional, such grants being recognised a5 expenditure when the conditions attaching are
fulfilled. Grants offered subject lo conditions which have not been mel al the year end are noted as a
commrtmenl, but not accwed as expendrture.
All expenditure is indusive of irrecoveratle VAT.

2.7 Investments
Fixed asset investments are a form of financial instrument and are inf(ially recognised at their
transaction cost and subsequently measured al fair value at the Balance sheet date, unless the value

and losses, vthether realised or unrealised. are combined and presented as 'G3insllLossesl on
investments, in the Statement of financial activthes.

2.9 LlabllStlo$ and provl$ions
Liabilities are recognised vthen the￿ is an obligation al the Balance sheet date as a result of a past
event. it is probable that a transfer of economic benefit will be required in settlement, and the amount
of the settlement can be ests"maled ￿lIablY.
Liabilities are fe¢ogni$ed at the amount that Ihe Charity anlicip*e$ it will pay to settle the debt or the
amount it has received as advanced payments for the goods or services it must provide.
Provisions are measured at the best estimate of the amounts required to settle the obligation. Where
the effect of the time value of money is material. the provision Is based on the present value of those
amounts, discounted at the pre-tax discount rale that ￿fleCt$ the risks specific lo the liability. The
urwlinding of the discount is recognised in the Statement of financial activities as a finance cost.
2.10 Flnanclal Instrufflonts
The Charity only has financial assets financial liabilities of a kind that qualify as baslc financial
instruments. Basic financial inslwmenls are initially recognised al transaction value and subsequently
measured at their settlement value wth the exception of bank loans which are subsequently
measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method.
2.11 Fund accounting
General fvnds are unreslricled ftjnds which are available lor use at the discretion of the Trustees in
furtherance of the general objectives of the Charity and which have not been designated for other
purposes.
Investment income, gains and losses are allocated lo the appropriate fvnd.
2.12 Exp•ndable Endowmenl
The expendable endowTnent fijnd represents capital donat￿nS received by the charity, which are to
be held to produce income to fvnd charikble donations. The trustees have the power to determine
that the fund itself be spent rf necessary.
