The organisation is a regster8J charity and a company limited by guarantee. It was
incorporated on Ilth January 2001 and regISte￿d a5 a charity on 12th February 2001. The
company was established under a Memorandum of Assocfiation whith e#ablished the objects
and power5 of the company. and is govemed under ts Articles of Association.
The trustees of the thwity, wh) are also the tXrector5 of the Company. delegate
responsibility for the day to day running of the tharity to the Chief Exetirtive offi￿r,
Anndeloris Chacon.
Recruitment and Appolntment of Tntstees
Trustees are appointed at the Annual General Meeting of the charity. The artides of
associatFon speafy a minimum level of representation of members of the black and minority
ethnic communities and also of Ca￿TS or fom)er carers.
The Compary's objects and principal activities are:

profession*s. and oryan￿tiOnS that the rDle of a carer is an additional role for the
individual. It should not be taken for grdnted because rf they did not carry out ttvs role for
the cared-for, heatth and soaal care would not be able to co￿.

our carers/service users as we martsin their d￿nty with respert and trust. which enable5

Bristol Black Carers aim is to improve the unde￿andIng of the carer5.role and
responslbllltles to aS5iSt organisations. professionals, and individuals to know the
difference from that of care who give dirett assistance to the cared-for. Also to
assist the carerslservice users to acce5S the relevant required service to match their
needs thus reducing stress. improving wellbeing, and reducing cost to health and soaal
care. Our support and emwwernient wll reduce relian￿ on the health and soaal care
systems while working towards reduong health inequalities and rethang the gap in life
expettancy bttween the best and off.
Bristol Black Carer5 had to suddenly stop all previous f￿e to face activrties in March 2020
due to the COVID 19 pandemic and we found new way5 to keep communicating and
supporting our carerslser¥ice users. We continued to deliver our infomation, advi￿, and
advocacy serwces, whith increased because in<tividuats were now locked in at home with
their cared-for or were not able to see their cared-ft)r.

about the phone CAII. mostly they said they were glad to know someone-wa5 thinking of

We provided a rnain meal that was nutritlOU5. tasty. and corrett 90rtion seven days a
week for our seNice users who had some difficulty with preparing rneals regularly.

The impart of thls was More than we expected - e.g. One of our carers suffers with
epilepsy and mental health condity.on v4ho foryot to take her medication because she was
so focused on caring for her mother with dementia. She informed us because the meals
were regular, she wa5 now taking her medication regularfy. Everyone who received a meal
enjoyed the tase and variety prnvided.
In future, we hope to devefop this further wrth it being subsidised to contribute to it
sustainably because everyone vtho received the meals was on benefts. Our service users
also looked forward to the meals because they had an opp)rtunity to have a little that
with our volunteer drivers. who alx> commented on how friendly the meet up was for
them. This broke some londiness and isolation.
Food dlstribution.. December 2020 to March 2021
This programme was managed by Black South West Networ* for a number of black led
organisations.
We were part of the food hub distributing food to h(wholds wr Serv1￿ users from the
Caribbean, African and Asian communities who Shared with their neighbours what was
not collected wa5 sent to a food bank.
Approximately 277 collecbcffts V￿re made On￿ a week for that period.

for them to have a personal experience of what they have not accessed before. Within the
Caribbean community counselling is nrt viewed as a pKJsitive way to deal with situations.
One of our male carers fwnd that this was an eye opening. experience for him which in
tum made a w￿[tiVe Influen￿ on his relationship5 wthin his family.
stepping Out Safety: September 2020 to NovL¥nber 2020

We started this pilot to help our seniors to Start feeling &ife to leave home as the
restrictions were lifted. We had a weekly art class with four women age range 60 to 80.
They enjoyed the classes and ea(h otherfs company. They felt safe comlng to our venue
to have time to themselves away from home. Due to further restrictions. we were not able
to grow the dass or even start another 9roup. This was restarted in June 2021 and

continue until ￿ L)ecember 2021 - Christmas tards were made and donated to the tuck
shop at the Brfstol Children's Ho5￿1.

(BSWN) and Somali Resource Centre
Increased capacity for delivery of services with ￿rne fvnds for finanoal assistance and
digital indusion. This partnership also allowed us to collert data wthout the stress of
having to analyse it. and was able to rEfiect what we delivered. The re￿rt compiled by
BSWN really helped us to see our work and know the wsitive impact we had in our
service users lives.

Developed a handbook with stmple exer(ises to follow wthich was sent via post to service
users.
Additional telephone calls were made to theck if the exercise book produced wa5 helpful.
Some identified that they know some of the exerases, it was a helpful reminder.
To all our fvnders and dOI￿rS. we would like to say thank you for giving us the much
funding resources to deliver services that had a positive Impart on our carers/service
user5 through these uncertain times.
Carers Breaks
We submitted approximately thirty (30) carer5 smple assessment for them to recelve a
one-off payment to able to do something for themselves with the hope it gave thern some
relaxation or reduced st￿55. Some carers are still not aware of this furKI and we are
wothng towards increasing the number of applications.
Plans for fvture
Bristol Black Carer5 will continue the servfices above in the forthcoming years subject to
satisfa(tory funding arrangements. We are developing setvices to broalen the level of
support we can give to carers1ser¥i￿ users and those they Ca￿ for both in and out of the
home.
Bristol Black Careis will be w0￿1ng towards <*veloping partherships with oth
organisations to give us a well-rounded dellvery of serwces that addresses home care
support. training. and social events. We pride ourselves in looking al care for all aspects of

affects the wellbeing of our carer51service users.
We are working towards addresstng health inequalities that exi& in our tsrget grDUPS
(Caribbean. Afrfjcan and Asaan) and would like to work doser with the Integrated Care
Partnerships to Influen￿ the thanges necessary to reduts these gaps. We have been
lnvolved.and still involved in different consultations to bring the issues of the
Care￿SerVice users to the forefront of the commissioners SO thèt the services will addreas
the issues faced by our target group5.
It is *Jur hope that work in pmrnoting health initiatives will contribute towards better
health care. We hope to give our carers/service users some opp)rtunities to explore
different non-medical ways to manage their needs/issues. Suth as the creative arts. help
them identify breaks that are ideal for their situations vthich we can offer lo assist with the
arrnngement and to provide snme complementary th￿aPleS on regular basis.

It is ad(nowledged that the TTUStees are fvlly reswnsible for the instigation and
maintenance of the Bristol Black Carers Risk Management.
Procedures are in rAace to ersure compliano wtth health and safety of stsff. volunteers,
carers and visito￿. These ￿yc￿dures are pwiodically reviewed to ensure that they
continue to meet the needs of the charity.
Reserves Policy
We have a Reserve Pollcy whereby the unre*ricted funds not committed should be six
months of resources expended on running costs. whlch is estimated as £98.859 12020
£7,389).
The ￿SerVeS are needed to meet the working ca￿"tal reqU1￿ments of the charity and the
Management Committee feel confident that at this level they would be at4e to continue
the current artivitie5 of the charrty.
The present levd of general funts available to the thaiity of £35.184 is therefore below
target. It is prudent to ensure there are suifKient fr& reserves to provide financial and
operational flexibility.

charitable company for the year. In preparing those fin￿aal staternents the trustees are

them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Companies Art 2006.
The trustees are also res￿+s1b1e for safeguarding the assets of the tharity and hence for
taking reasonable steps ft)r the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
The trustees confirm that to the best of their knowledge there is no information relevant
to the Independent Examlnation of whth the Examinets are unaware.

I report to the charity trustees on my examlnatlon of the accounts of the
Charltable Company for the year ended 315t March 2021.
Responsibilities and basls of report
As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the pury)oses
of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in
accordance with the requirements of the Companies Att 2006 Cthe 2006 ACY).
Having Satisfied myself that the accounts of the"Company are not required to be
audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for indeperKlent
examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity s accounts as
carrted out under sertion 145 of the Charityes Att 2011 ('the 2011 Act.). In
carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity
Commission under sertion 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.
