GLOBAL CANCER CARE (A COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE)
REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025
OBJECTS AND ACTIVITIES Objectives and aims
The charity's objects are to improve throughout the world the knowledge and methodology relating to the prevention, early detection, treatment and palliative care of cancer.
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
GCC continues to support palliative care provided by 8 charitable centres in Egypt. The charity has spent £50,600 this year in its support for these centres including contribution to a 9" centre. These centres are widely spread across the country from Alexandria in the far north to Aswan in the far south. The centres support people with advanced cancer in several ways including crisis inpatient management, day care, provision of medication/medical devices and home visits. In addition, members of the charity volunteers in the UK supported education and training of volunteers in Egypt. In particular:
-
Aconference on palliative care was organised in Egypt on 26 and 27 July 2025. This was attended by 70 delegates.
-
Two expert medical staff from the UK provide a monthly remote educational/training session to volunteers who provide palliative care in Egypt.
-
Between October and November 2025, a member of charity volunteers visited seven palliative care centres in Egypt and met with managers of the palliative centre in Alexandria to discuss progress made and their needs. He also collects data every three months from the 8 centres.
-
GCC arranged a five-day palliative care training at St. Luke Hospice, Sheffield, for a doctor from Banha, Egypt, starting November 3. The focus was hospice care specially for terminally ill patients. The doctor plans to establish an in-patient palliative care service at his private hospital.
-
Multiple networks currently enable communication between centres.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Reserves policy
The trustees have now formalised the reserves policy for the charity. The charity operates on a cash basis
with no pledges made in advance of the receipt of funds. The reserves comprise, therefore, sufficient funds to meet the day-to-day running of the charity.
Future Developments.
-
e Arrangements are being made by the GCC for visits to the centres and to hold a two-days conference in Egypt in year 2026
-
e GCC is considering remote educational sessions for African nurses interested in palliative care. A successfultrial was held in Novemberfor a group of nurses in Cameroon.
-
e GCC is also working on the provision of support to a new centre in Mahalla-El-Kubra, a town to the northeast of Cairo
