CHAIR’S REPORT – 2024-2025

This report is an overview of the activities of Leigh North Street School parents’ association from October 2024 - September 2025.

It has been another incredibly successful fundraising year for the PA. We would like to thank the entire team for all their effort this past year. Once again lessons have been learnt and processes continually fine tuned to be as inclusive as possible with our fundraising. As we look ahead we hope to continue to build on all our strengths to deliver enjoyable, rewarding events for the children to enhance their school experience alongside being able to cater for those families less fortunate.

Events and fundraising

Christmas Fayre - This event needs plenty of volunteers, pre-planning, mince pies and mulled wine. It is a great way to raise money while spreading some Christmas cheer. The revised format utilising the KS1 playground space for games with the lighting/grotto/snow dome made for a very Christmassy feel and positive feedback from families. We intend to possibly expand in 2025 into the KS2 playground with even more on offer.

KS2 Disco - This event requires many volunteers but gives huge enjoyment to the children. Alongside the disco this year we had face painting, tattoos and tuckshop (note to self: not fizzy drinks cans and mentos!). Thanks to DJ Louis for bringing the tunes once more.

Leavers Disco- Organised with Mrs Mansell, the PA provided support with inflatables, ice-cream van, a DJ, a Photo Booth, light up numbers, festival wristbands and the Leavers Hoodies. Inflatable Fun Due to a lack of volunteers we had to cancel this event again. We will give serious consideration before organising this event again, as support is not forthcoming. Welcome Back Fair We cancelled this event due to lack of capacity on the Committee to be able to organise so close to the beginning of term, and only 8 weeks from the Christmas Fayre.

Other fundraising activities

Some fundraising projects have also been moved online. Overall it is more convenient for parents and the PA team.

Christmas Cards - Completed at home and ordered online. Making the process less admin heavy. This year information will be passed to class teachers at the end of September to hand out to all children and then children/parents complete the process of creation and ordering at home. We will give just over 2wks for parents to order (shop will close mid October) to take advantage of a negotiated whopping 25% of commission earned (thanks Dani).

Tea Towels- Incorporated into a lesson and ordered online. Making the process less admin heavy. Will aim to do these earlier this year, possibly February, if the school is able to fit into lesson time.

- Bag2school/ Astra Recycling Clothing Bank organised by PA Team. We now have an onsite clothing bank (big green bin) on the North Street side of school which is emptied fortnightly during term time. This is proving popular with families and a good way of the PA being able to dispose of excess uniform.

- Easter/ Christmas Raffles Lots of easter eggs/ festive prizes to be won also offering dairy free and vegan options.

Raffle tickets sold in class, children pay in cash. Thanks to teachers and LSAs for facilitating this. - Adventure Island / Sealife vouchers All AI vouchers sold out prior to the summer. PA will purchase more of both of these when back on sale in January at a discounted price, although the bulk buy discount is not much of a deal as it was. We only make £2-£3 per ticket.

Pre-loved Uniform- New box system has been set up by the office for self service uniform ‘shop’. Payment due via QR code. The creation of a permanent payment reminder sign is currently ready to print and should be up by the end of next week. We are still trying to get the word out to parents donating to do so directly into the correct aged boxes - we’d like whole process to be as self sufficient as possible. If we could ask Site Team/Office Staff to check lids whenever they pass that would be extremely useful as we’ve had a couple of instances where it’s rained and wet/soggy uniform is then sitting damp in the box(es).

- Easy fundraising The name says it all, money raised for our school from online shopping. We

continue to promote this on our socials, we will create a reminder flyer to go out on ParentMail for new intake parents to get them onboard, along with YourSchoolLottery.

- 500 Club / Your School Lottery A lottery style fundraiser, the income of which goes towards the running and upkeep of the school pool. Continually need to push this to capture more supporters. Again promoted on our socials but uptake only 75 supporters from a school of c.1000 parents. The more supporters onboard the more money is won each week (currently c.£28 per week) with every week a chance to also win £25k.

- WonderWomen/ MarvellousMen Marketplaces/ Elfridges popular fundraising events for this year to give children the chance to purchase a small gift(s) for the wonderful women and marvellous men in their lives, and Christmas gifts for all the family. Item price of £2.50 (was £2), parents pay beforehand via PTA Events, and the PA run a marketplace for a day in school so children can come and choose their gifts. This was a very popular and extremely successful event and a joy to see the children make their choices.

Funds spent

Please take a moment to view our treasurer’s report to see where money has been spent and what we have raised.

Some examples of what we have funded this year:

KS2 playground toilets Trips Christmas trees Christmas crackers Santa gifts for grotto Christmas & Easter Raffles plus prizes Freddos/ sweets for all children at Christmas (gift from PA) Leavers party (bouncy castle and ice cream van) Leavers Hoodies (PA paid for some) Open House craft equipment

Final Word

We have thoroughly enjoyed continuing to bring exciting and enjoyable experiences to the school for families this past year. However we are currently struggling as a committee to fulfil the commitments of everything we would like to deliver. We are excited to welcome Rekha Bhutiya to the team as a new arrival to the area and to the school. We are always on the lookout for more new blood, new ideas and, the most invaluable commodity, those who have time, plus an abundance of energy. Without enough of a committee / PA support team right now we sadly aren’t able to run the big earner events such as Inflatable Fun or Welcome Back Fayre, but will endeavour to continue with the regular fundraisers such as raffles/Christmas Cards/Marketplaces, which still take time and effort, so we can support and enhance our children's experience while at North Street Primary School.

Cheers,

Holly Whiteley & Suzie Ridler
