Every charity must prepare a trnstee6' annual report. The report should explain the aims of the charity and hovo il Is achieving them.
Is a chance to show the benefrt lo the public of the chaTty's work and also show funder5 ht)w the¢T money was used and what wa$
achEved with it.
The aims of West Kent Downs Countyside Trust are .
1. To acquire land in the area known as the Leisure Plots near Cobham, Kent.
2. To manage to plots to maintain the woodland environment, to provide safe access
on the tracks to members of the public and to promote the diversty and health of
the natural environment.
3. To educate the public about the natural world as it pertains to the woodland and to
encourage to public to enjoy its peace and tranquillity.
To acquire more plots we have carried out a mailshot to each of the 50 individual plot
owners inviting them to contribute their plots to us for management under our approved
scheme. We have re￿iVed three replies and are pursuing them. We plan to write again t
selected owners with an offer to purchase their plots. This will be funded from accumulat
subscriptions.
The management of the woodland has been made considerably easier by the gift of an
Avant loader- a type of tractor which takes various attachments- from Lower Thames
Crossing. We are now able to safely fell trees which threaten to fall onto the tracks or ha
serious Ash Dieback.
In general we follow our Management plan to remove invasive species such as
rhododendron and sycamore and to plant native species such as oak, beech and
hornbeam. In order to combat the effects of global heating we are planning to widen the
range of species which will increase diversity. Work is carried out on Wednesdays by
members of WKDCT and includes felling of dangerous trees, surveys for veteran trees,
dangerous trees and invasive species. Surveys for chalk grassland plants and for dormic
are under way. This work is not costly and is funded from subscriptions.
We are also in touch with funding organisations such as the Lower Thames Crossing and
M&G financial services who paid for a replacement vehicle.
To fulfil our educational obligation, we have a website - wkdct.org and a facebook
page. We publicise workdays and publish informative photos and comments. Loca
Scout troops camp in the woodland and forest schools are held.
