## EVERYONE’S CHILD ROMANIA ## TRUSTEES REPORT 2020-2021 TO THE CHARITY COMMISSION ## Work of the charity The charity gives aid and support to young children and their families in Romania who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS as well as ongoing medical and emotional support. The main revenue stream for ECR comes from our small charity shop in South Wales. The shop is located in Fleur-deLys (Blackwood). A small committee of volunteers based in South Wales meet a couple of times a year to arrange fund-raising events, prepare a quarterly newsletter and deal with any general administration. The work of the charity has been impacted by the global Covid pandemic:- - In South Wales the shop was forced to close during various “lockdown” periods as decided by the Welsh Assembly Government and the charity received grant money (distributed via Caerphilly County Borough Council) to compensate for the loss of trading - Usual fundraising events were unable to go ahead, but individual donors and supporters who donate via standing order and the 777 Club continued to be generous - In Romania the team were affected by lockdowns preventing them from working face-to-face with families at different times. The team adapted their practices to enable remote support to continue, including counselling sessions via telephone, educational support for the children via tablets / laptops wherever able, and deliveries of essential supplies to the most vulnerable families. - The project Director was unable to travel back to Wales to visit groups of supporters or have face-to-face meetings with the committee as would usually happen. Outside of lockdown restrictions work continued as much as could be done. The following projects are still in place, even if progress has been slowed by the circumstances:- - Renovation projects are carried out when funds are available - The Sunshine programme – this funds a number of day trips for the children to the seaside etc. - The Community Project – this is essentially to pre-empt any problems within the families and to provide advice, support and counselling. - The Counselling Project – this project looks at all aspects of spiritual and emotional wellbeing. They try to reach the children as soon as possible to provide early counselling. There is a Mother and Baby group and an At Risk counselling warning about sex traffickers. - A project, provides mini-farm chicken shacks which house 50-60 organically raised chickens. This supplies a number of families. - By the end of March 2022 the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was being felt as many refugees crossed from Ukraine into Romania. The ECR team in Romania are seeking to work with Local Authorities, other NGOs in the region, and the charity World Vision to help support child refugees in the Constanta are. This is exceptional work due to the impact of the military offensive in Ukraine, but falls within the remit of the charity’s vision statement and aims. ## How we raise funds - Charity Shop - 777 Club - Many of the charity supporters donate £7 (plus) per month to the 777 club and this generates a steady income. - Fundraising activities, including: - Sponsored walk around Bryn Bach Park - Charity Shop - keeping it well stocked. Including selling items on various sites online and recycling. - The Annual Cycle Marathon took place in September in Romania - Ad hoc donations.
