no claims| ## **Financial Narrative** HVP Nepal-UK began the financial year 2024-25 with a balance of £18,755.53. Over the course of the year, we transferred £ 13,929.61 to Nepal across the three schools, mainly comprising scholarship funds to allow underprivileged young people to benefit from a quality education based on human values philosophy. Our routine administrative expenditure remains low, with funds to Nepal rationalised into single transfers to save on bank fees (just £62 incurred). The annual cost of Just Giving was £198, which we still consider to be a worthwhile investment as the primary way in which volunteers and other supporters can donate to HVP Nepal-UK. This year saw JustGiving used as the platform for fundraising events organised by members of the charity, UK volunteers now returning to the schools in Nepal and by Merchant Taylors’ School who raised £1378 + £334.50 in Gift Aid in February 2025. Our admin expenses for this year therefore comprised £260, just 1% of our total income for the year. The year saw exceptional expenditure totalling £3733.75 in February 2025 to procure flights for the UK visit of Mr Vishnu Bakhta Dangi, Head Master of HVP Central School in Kathmandu. This figure included an additional cost, partly due to unsuitable flight connections on the original booking for a traveller with a disability, and partly to an administrative error on our behalf. This resulted in the original flights having to be cancelled and new flights booked. We received a refund of £1163, which covered some but not all of the cost of the original flights. Lessons were learned. We would never book via Booking.com again, as this led b606 ae A: — ' - to unsuitable itineraries and a lack of flexibility or refunds ned a2 hy i | 4 z upon cancellation. We feel this was the right decision given the influx of goodwill HVP Nepal-UK Social with Vishnu April 2025 and support for our activities from existing and new supporters from across the UK as a direct consequence of Vishnu’s visit. ## **Overview of 2024-2025** The major development of this year was the return of UK volunteers to the schools in Nepal over the summer of 2024. Trustee and Treasurer, Lars Atkin, arranged through the UK Government’s Turing Scheme for one student from the University of Kent to volunteer at HVP Dang. Fellow trustee, Matthew Hilton-Dennis, organised a group of 20 students and teachers from Merchant Taylors’ School, to volunteer at HVP Central School in July 2024. These visits have begun to rebuild the volunteering programme, dormant since 2019, which is central to the relationship between the schools in Nepal and HVP Nepal-UK. As well as the restoration of this direct connection, attendant with the return of volunteers has been significant fundraising activity. The students of Merchant Taylors’ School (MTS) collectively raised £6159.60, although the transfer to HVP Nepal-UK account was not made until May 2025 and will therefore feature in the following financial year’s annual review. In addition to this, and as mentioned above, MTS made HVP Nepal-UK the charity of choice for the 24-hours of music charity drive in early February 2025, raising £1378 + Gift Aid. Therefore, while the closing balance for the financial year is high, it is worth noting that significant transfers to Nepal, including the annual donation of £5000 from Lara Atkin Foundation, would be made in June 2025 to support critical infrastructure projects in the schools. These projects included: building a new toilet wing at HVP Thali, the refurbishment of classrooms at HVP Central and HVP Thali, and the downpayment for a new school bus at HVP Central. The schools, parents and most importantly the students have felt the immediate benefits of these developments. Our scholarship scheme continues to be the main way that we support the activities of the HVP schools and the Children’s Peace Home (CPH) at Dang. Funds raised from monthly standing orders from supporters are collected and distributed between the three schools. The majority of these funds still go to HVP Dang and the Children’s Peace Home, in order to support cost of living and the education of the most disadvantaged students. We have now taken the decision to divide the scholarship fund more equitably between the three schools, with 25% now going to both HVP Central A Merchant Taylors’ School Volunteer at HVP Central School July 2024 and HVP Central and 50% going to HVP Dang. The shortfall to Dang, we decided, would be met from our reserves until fundraising from UK volunteers to Nepal recommences. This recognises the need coming from each school and includes costs such as school fees, uniforms and other sundry expenses for both fully and partially supported students. In terms of changes to the board of trustees, in January 2025, Matt Larsen-Daw stood down after more than a decade as Chair of HVP Nepal-UK. He remains a trustee and has taken on the role of Secretary after Eileen Daw stood down from that role also in January 2025. The new Chair is Matthew HiltonDennis, a trustee who has been involved with HVP Nepal-UK for almost 30 years. The schools in Nepal continue to run well, with notable successes in both academic and sporting achievement at local as well as national levels. They are still recovering from the challenges of the past few years and both HVP Dang and HVP Central are seeking to restore pupil numbers to what they were pre-pandemic. HVP Dang still faces the financial struggle of supporting the large number of underprivileged students, most of whom live in the Children’s Peace Home, who bring no fee income to the school. The community, however, remains strong, and there has been an encouraging take-up of places at the Montessori Nursery the school now runs. With the prospect of volunteers from Oxford and Cambridge universities returning to the schools for summer 2026, the mood is optimistic in all three schools and with the prospects for us as a charity. of the Trust for the year ended 07 April 2025, which are set out in the attached documents. ## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner** The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. ## **It is my responsibility to:** 1. examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act; 2. to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and 3. to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of independent examiner's report** My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission.
