Trustee Report – Lee Brockhurst Village Hall Year Ended 31[st] March 2022

The time period between the Association's previous AGM, 28th July 2020 and today has been challenging. As I pointed out at the record of our former meeting, the emergence of the COVID pandemic, early year 2020, compromised all hall-based income and social activities, but bizarrely created opportunities to raise funds from COVID related support schemes, particularly from the statutory sector, which in other times may have taken much longer to secure at a time when the hall's physical service and life was uncertain.

The Treasurer at his most excellent report has detailed the funding and expenditures to fulfil the mandate agreed by the Association to the elected Management Committee to restore the hall's structural integrity, based upon our local surveyor Darryl Wright's expert report in year 2020.

I am sure you will agree with me that the hall's physical restoration, now completed by Garoll Ltd, our chosen project contractor, is a great success. It is therefore a great pleasure to have with us today Darryl Wright of Bleazard & Galetta Surveyors & Architects in Wem, also Justin Marshall, head of Garoll Ltd, to express our warm appreciation to them and Garoll's team of experts for such a splendid achievement in bringing our historic hall back to life. This has been achieved within our secured funds especially when building materials, similar to fuel/energy costs increased almost hourly during the hall's reconstruction.

Within the constant review of on-going costs Dave Procter has been a superb Treasurer, not only in helping to secure funds but also by monitoring and checking expenditure against secured funds and anticipated future costs within our total budget. Many thanks to Dave for his very professional expertise.

I noted at my year 2020 AGM report a request, with your subsequent agreement, for members to contribute towards the hall's full restoration costs, at that time unknown, but anticipated to be only achieved on a 'match funding' basis by external potential donors. You responded wholeheartedly, none more so than young Evia Farley whose hand-made cookies raised more than £150.00 within the village.

Major funding for the restoration of the hall was received from the National Lottery, Garfield Weston Foundation and the Bernard Sunley Foundation. Their excellent financial support has been matched by Shropshire County Council's national and regional statutory funds for COVID assistance to communities. I have, on the Association's behalf, communicated our warm appreciation to all those benefactors, likewise to the local Twemlows and Millichope charity funds who have also donated financial support.

In respect of identifying from the outset potential donors, national and local, I am heavily indebted to Julia Baron, the shortly retiring Chief Executive of the Shropshire County's Resource Centre. Julia and her team, particularly Graham Betts, have been more than patient with my constant telephone calls, letters and knocking on their doors for funds and guidance.

Now that the restoration project has been completed, I want to also especially thank my Management Committee colleagues for their patience during our many meetings when I have unwittingly 'over talked' them, but particularly for their work and commitment to our hall. meetings with County Officers and major donors, and keeping the Association informed of progress. None of these could have been achieved without her keyboard/lT expertise.

June and I are stepping down from the Management Committee, as we no longer qualify for Association membership having moved to Prees. It has been our great pleasure and we have had many happy years as members of the Association, making many friends and enjoying social events at the Hall. We wish the Association's members and the Hall good health and fortune in the years ahead.

The books and records continue to be well kept and the explanations I required in support of the accounts were provided fully by the Treasurer Mr D Procter, All the records provided to me were checked and, as a result, I consider that the accounts properly reflect the operations of the Village Hall during this financial period. lan Wilson 8th May 2022 ICB
