Group Report
Another twelve months have sped by with lots of our volunteers moving sections and new faces joining
the team who help offer Skills for Life to our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. Its great to have more
hands helping to provide those skills - it takes the pressure of each individual if everyone is able to help
Our Board of Trustees has remained the same for a number of years but this year our chair, lan Symonds,
stood down. lan was encouraged to join the group by his brother, Mark (who was the Explorer Leader at
the time) and he stayed on for a number of years despite Mark moving on and lan not living locally - Zoom
meetings helped and I am extremely grateful for the support lan gave me - he got used to receiving
ranting emails from me when I got frustrated with different aspects of Scouting and helped me to work
out the best way forward. We wish him all the best as he moves on.
Fortunately for the Group (and for my confused brain) we have a replacement for lan - another lan - but
this time lan (Booth) has children in the group and lives locally. Ian has experience of Sea Scouts, having
been a member at Barton-on-Sea and also of chairing meetings. The other long-standing members who
complete our team are John, Pat, Chris and Tim - they all work hard behing the scenes to ensure the group
is safe and compliant - as well as ensuring our buildings and kit are kept in good working order.
If you are able to help support the sections in anyway - even offering to run/plan one session will help the
leaders enormously - so if you have a skill that the Beavers/Cubs/Scouts/Explorers could/should learn,
please let us know: bike maintenance, star gazing, baking, first aid, sewing - these are all Skills for Life.
A big thank you to everyone who has been part of our team.
