Scouts Waterlines 1st Sandleheath Sea Scout Group AGM 2024 Group Report Another Scouting year has quickly disappeared with lots of activities and fun had throughout the sections. There has been a lot of changes at national level- the most recent being the announcement that Bear Grylls will be stepping down as Chief Scout with Dwayne Fields taking over the role- I wilL be interested to learn more about him over the next few months. The changes hopefully won't be obvious at section level- our leadersfvolunteers have new names in the Scout handbook but it doesn't change the roles that they will be doing, offering great experiences to our young peopLe. Those of you who know me will understsnd how much work goes on behind the scenes to keep the sections running - making sure all the Leaders and helpers have the right training and safety checks in pLace- quite rightly there has been a push from Scout HQ to make sure all the boxes have been ticked and we don't overLook things because we have always "done it that way . If you are able to help support the sections in anyway- even offering to runlplan one session will help the leaders enormousLy- so if you have a skill that the BeaverslCubslScouts/Explorers couldlshould learn. please let us know: bike maintenance, star gazing, baking, first aid, sewing - these are all SkilLs for Life. Thank you to everyone who has helped maked being a member of Sandleheath Sea Scouts & Avon Valley Explorers enjoyabLe this year. Martine Coatham, Group Lead Volunteer A note from our Chair: There's been another fantastic year for the Scout group, with a wide range of activities and engagement. We've had some new leaders and people taking on extra duties. Its great to hear of the amazing adven- tures and activities the Scouts are getting invoLved with . from canoe to sailing, hiking to camping. tsking on the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. We've had great attendance across the age groups. and we have a significant number of children wishing to join. We've had some parents helping out and I'm sure they've found that exceptionally rewarding, whiLe being pivotsl in keeping the groups, activities exciting. chalLenging. yet safe. The leaders have run successfuL camps through the year and 3 of our young people attained their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. To make aLI this happen requires entirely on volunteers. We are always short of parental assistsnce so please consider assisting in whatever way possibLe, it's a very rewarding experi- ence. lan Symonds. Group Chair Waterlines.
