THE OUTLOOK TRUST FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
Annual Report 2022
2022 has been a welcome return to some sort of normality for the Outlook Trust. The lifting of Covid restrictions for 2022 meant we could provide our six activity weekends as well as our longer sailing residential in the summer.
Jonny Cormack has accepted our invitation to join our board of trustees. He has a background in sailing coaching .Jonny previously was the Senior Sailing Instructor managing a Windermere RYA sailing centre. He is also a volunteer sailing coach for the charity Blind Sailing which he has been involved with for many years.. He has recently taken on the position of the manager at Blackwell Sailing
Windermere a registered charity which provides water and land based activities for adults and children with disabilities in Cumbria. He has provided a great deal of support to our charity for many years now.
Our new bus came into its own with no issues this year travelling down to the Solent Estuary. We managed to lend it to a local church who donated 250 to our charity.
We benefitted from five residential weekends at Ghyll Head Outdoor Activity Centre. They also provided our water activity for a sixth weekend. In September we returned to Windermere Youth Hostel for accommodation. All six weekends were full and many were over subscribed.

The picture above is a lovely example of new children making new friends The bespoke Safeguarding training designed specifically to meet the needs of The Outlook Trust was successfully delivered, to all staff involved in supporting participating children. This training was delivered by our two Safeguarding Officers on the first two weekends of the season. We are still refining our policies and procedures in collaboration with the RYA Safeguarding team. Trustees have met regularly to discuss ongoing matters and monitor effective use of our resources.
We are reaching new children and families. The Facebook Page has worked well giving up to date information. More
parents are becoming directly involved. A big thank you to Nadia, Fiona and all the parents who have supported us with donations this year.Thank you for your support in fund raising. We always need your support.
The Summer sailing this year was a great success. All participants were actively engaged. The skipper John Crosbie
former Head of the Calvert Trust Keswick did an excellent job in involving all the participants all the time in sailing the boat. They all came back with a

good understanding of what is required to sail a large yacht at sea. We picked up the boat in Gosport. The chartering of one large seventy foot yacht which would accommodate all children and staff proved to be more economically viable than using two yachts.
A big thank you to Paul and Annie for giving up a week of their holidays to support us.
Following our yacht Kitten being written off in winter storms we have replaced her with another new to us Drascombe gig which we will name “Out on the Full”. The boat has been purchased for us by a charitable trust
The Wooden Spoon. The Wooden Spoon raises funds for charities who support children and adults with disability. This now allows all participating children to sail at the same time in our two boats.
A big thank to all our volunteers and trustees for their support in 2022 If we manage to fund raise successfully it will be plain sailing through the year.

We will be proposing six weekends this year as well as our sailing week. If you can think of any sporting events fun runs etc where you might attract sponsorship please consider us. If you know of any charitable trusts or companies offering support please let us know or if you feel confident enough apply on our behalf. I am happy to provide any information and support you require
Thank you to The George Martin Trust, Sovereign Heath Care, Happy Days, The Lions, The Finn Trust, Paul Newton and everyone else who has supported our work in 2022.
Many thanks to all our volunteers Jonny, John, Gerard, Victoria, Annie Mick and Ollie the list goes on. Thank you to the cyclists who support our lakeside rides Without these wonderful people giving their time freely at weekends we could not operate.
Things are looking promising for 2023 and we are frantically improving, repairing and preparing boats for next season. We have managed to secure a charitable charter from UKSA this summer which will help.
A special than you to John and jJulie and other staff at Ghyll Head Outdoor Activity Centre. They have made us very welcome as well as letting us store and moor our boats. We will be using the centre’s accommodation and services in the forthcoming year.
