THE OUTLOOK TRUST FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

Annual Report 2021

Welcome to Saliha our new trustee.

May we welcome Saliha Rashid to our board of trustees. A former student of Temple Bank School for the Visually impaired. This is where the trust was formed in 2000. As a child she was a regular attendee on our weekends and weeks away. She has a good understanding of the work we do. She now lives independently near London and works in Social Services. She has already demonstratedn what an asset she is to our team.

2021 has been a really challenging year for the Outlook Trust. Covid restrictions meant we only began activities at the end of July with our sailing week being the first event of the season..

The bus had been inactive for over a year. It gave us problems travelling down to the Hamble. After its repair whilst we were sailing in the Solent we sold it following our final weekend in October

We managed to find accommodation to provide four of our usual six weekends in 21. Two in each of the months of September and October. It was wonderful to see old friends and new. It was good to be involved in our activities. We managed over forty opportunities for children over the weekends and six for the sailing week.

A lot our youngsters really struggled with the additional isolation of the Covid pandemic and it was great to see them all back together again having fun with their friends.

Our final weekend was wet and windy so we took a steam train journey!

The bespoke Safeguarding training designed specifically to meet the needs of The Outlook Trust was successfully delivered, to all staff involved in supporting participating children. This training was delivered by our two Safeguarding Officers on the first two weekends of the season.

Trustees have met regularly to discuss ongoing matters and monitor effective use of our resources.

We are reaching new children and families. The Facebook Page has worked well giving up to date information. More parents are becoming directly involved. A big thank you to Nadia and Lucie for their support in fund raising.

We do need your support.

The Summer sailing this year was a great success. All participants were actively engaged. We picked up the boat in the Hamble The chartering of one large seventy foot yacht which would accommodate all children and staff proved to be more economically viable than using two yachts. A big thank you to Annie and Paul for giving up a week of their holidays to support us.

Our yacht Kitten was written off in winter storms. Out for a Duck was also damaged. Out for a Duck has been repaired. We have replaced Kitten with another new to us Drascombe gig which we will name Golden Duck.

We have replaced Out for A Duck ’s sails replaced and repaired equipment..

We have now replaced our mini bus repaired and serviced all our tandem bikes and serviced our Ivor Williams trailer so our reserves have taken a big hit this year. A big thank to all our volunteers and trustees for their support in 21

Financially in 2022 we are currently sailing close to the wind. However if we manage to fund raise successfully it will be plain sailing through the year.

We will be proposing six weekends this year as well as our sailing week. We really need your help. If you can think of any sporting events fun runs etc where you might attract sponsorship please consider us.I f you know of any charitable trusts or companies

offering support please let us know or if you feel confident enough apply on our behalf. I am to provide any information and support you require
