## **MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE YEAR April 2022 to March 2023**

The great news is that 3 Squirrel Dreys were established; one in May 2022, one in October and one in November with, so far 4 brand new leaders as well as a few changing roles and with lots of support from other group members.

And what an impact they have made!

Squirrels highest award is the Chief Scout Acorn Award and by the end of March 2023 Squirrels had achieved 3.

Plans are in hand for some District Squirrel events.

The Census in January 2023 saw a small increase in youth numbers; those Squirrels again ☺

Some very hard work has gone on in a few groups to build new leadership teams giving scouting opportunities to more young people where numbers had previously dropped, well done!

Achievement of Chief Scout awards in the younger sections is general very good; Scouts are now catching up after the Covid pandemic.

We had 7 participants from Derby East complete their Explorer Belt during expeditions to Norway and Italy in August 2022. Congratulations and we look forward to some of them using that great experience to achieve their King Scout award

Mention must be made of the number of Young Leaders, 14 to 18 years old in Derby East, at Census we recorded 33 who have the opportunity to complete their training with Neptune Young Leaders Unit gaining a Young Leaders belt as recognition. These are the young people who are going on to be our leaders now and in the future.

Recognition of outstanding adult service in the District has resulted in 8 awards in the last twelve months; 2 Silver Acorn, 2 Bar the Award of Merit and 6 Awards of Merit. Outstanding!!

We increased the number of adult service awards achieved; 27 in total. Our congratulations go to all but especially to John Howarth who achieved 70 years’ service last July.

Looking forward there will be organisation changes for all, nationally and locally but the emphasise, as always will remain as being on all scouting together to provide young people with Skills for Life

The Trustees thank everyone, young and not so young for sticking with it; and for the great scouting in Derby East. Your efforts to overcome many hurdles are applauded
