Objects
The relief of poverty and the advancement of welfare and education of children in the district of Lota in Chile, South America.
Review of activities
The charity aims to care for around 50 families who live in a very poor district of the old coal mining town of Lota in Southern Chile by providing help in the following ways:

repairs and additions to their houses when needed,
-
monthly deliveries of flour, lentils, beans, sugar and other foods,
-
clothes and shoes for the children, particularly their school requirements,
-
payment for training courses such as nursing, hairdressing, engineering and other courses according to the child’s abilities,
-
help and advice on health and administrative matters,
-
English language lessons,
-
a supervised camping holiday for fifty to sixty children aged 7 to 15.
In the year under review some activities curtailed due to the restrictions of COVID-19 have been reinstated and in particular the annual camping holiday. It is intended to continue the activities supporting the families and to expand the scope of the help that is given to them as funds become available.
Financial review
The Accounting Statement on page 4 has been prepared on the receipts and payments basis in compliance with the appropriate legal requirements for a charity with a gross income not exceeding £250,000 and which is not a company incorporated under the Companies Acts. The Accounting Statement shows a deficit of receipts over payments of £929 (2022: surplus £895).
The funding of the charity’s activities and the expenditure on them during the year is shown in the Accounting Statement. No reserves are held other than day to day cash funds and the charity will continue to receive funding as required by way of grants from The Robert Mayhew Charitable Trust in London. During the year short term interest free loans were received in Chile from related parties and these are repaid out of funds received from London as available.
