## **CHAIRMAN’S REPORT TO THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING** 

## **April 2023** 

With the pandemic now hopefully behind us, people’s confidence to socialise seems to be slowly returning. Over the past year, our regular hirers have returned however I think its fair to say that the recovery has been slow and steady and many of our groups are not yet back to full numbers. 

Our hirings however have been boosted by the Ramsey Seniors Lunch Club which moved to the village hall from their previous location in Ramsey. This is a thriving group and we are pleased to welcome them to the hall. 

In an effort to encourage new bookings we have carried out extensive redecoration in the past year both inside and out giving the inside in particular a fresher, brighter colour scheme. 

Whilst we all welcome the end of the pandemic, we, like everyone else have been hit by the cost of living crisis and in particular the significant increase in electricity costs (which we use for lighting as well as heating). In an effort to reduce our usage we have replaced our internal fluorescent lighting with more cost effective LED however with the long, cold winter of 2022/3 we have found that our electricity bills have still increased significantly and regrettably we have recently had to raise our unit rates to cover our costs. 

The Management Committee are conscious that we need keep our hirings as affordable as possible and to try and find ways to make economies however we do have to balance the books and at the same time keep a 150-year-old building in a good state of repair. 

Once again, we would like to thank the Parish Council whose grant helps us to cover our insurance costs. 

Last but not least, my sincere thanks go to the management committee and its trustees whose tireless efforts continue to ensure that the hall remains a valuable community resource.
