Annual Report for 2023

After 10 years at the helm, the Chairman decided it was time for a new leader. The Committee extend their thanks to Mr Panton for his dedication to the community as 50 years as Parish Councillor and almost as long on the village hall committee.

The hall was completed in 2013 and some of the furniture and fittings were coming to the end of their life. The Committee implemented a scheme of replacing and upgrading the existing furniture and fittings, where necessary, within the hall. New locks were fitted to external doors to improve security, lack of storage was addressed within the office, new chairs were purchased for the bar area, the bar itself was cleaned, refurbished and fully stocked to enable us to market it effectively for parties and weddings. We engaged paid bar staff instead of relying on volunteers from the committee and this has worked well.

For the benefit of the community the Village Hall has provided a Christmas party, Coronation party, supported Coffee afternoons, and a term time Parents & Tots children’s group and put on other events such as a Wrinkly Rockers, 3 evenings of bingo, a Strawberry Tea, the annual Village Show, an end of summer party, a ceilidh and 2 craft fairs.

The Village Hall has also supported the Parish Council with a donation to fund the refurbishment of the playpark and donations towards the proposed purchase of a Speed Indicator Device. A local resident held a fundraising evening in aid of the Royal Papworth Hospital Charity, The Village Hall made a monetary donation as well as free hire of the hall and bar.

Financially the Hall is in a strong position. Hall hire has remained strong and the slight increase in charges has helped to maintain a steady income. Although the year ended in a deficit this is a reflection on the necessary investment that has been made to refurbishment and upgrading of the facilities.
