ANNUAL REPORT 2021

Dear friends

For the second year running we are having the AGM online. It has been a difficult time for all of us, as it has for the rest of the world. Some of you may have had the coronavirus and hopefully are fully recovered. We know that some of our friends have lost loved ones due to the infection and complications. Our thoughts are with them and hope that that the conditions will improve soon.

Last year there were some changes to the committee. Several new talents joined, and it was a joy to see how they participated and made positive contributions at the meetings.

Our fundraising efforts were restricted. Despite the problems we were able to collect nearly £30,000 with the help of our friends. Tremendous thanks to everyone who donated through Givey and JustGiving. We are also thankful to Helasarana for their generous contribution. There were two donors who directly contributed to Sri Lanka at our request.

We are very grateful to Prof Harendra de Silva for coordinating our contributions locally in Sri Lanka.

All the money raised was spent on medical equipment to donate to various hospitals with intermediate care centres, to improve the care for patients affected by COVID-19 during the third wave of the virus in Sri Lanka.

The details of how we distributed the equipment is available on our website. www.medicalaidtosrilanka.org.uk

We have donated intensive care beds, oxygen supplying machines, pulse oximeters and personal protection equipment items to hospitals all around the country. We also helped the Jayawardanapura Medical College to get some vital equipment to help with their research facilities at the Molecular Biology Department. The treasurer will give details about the expenditure in his report.

Despite the difficulties we continued to support the kidney patients as we have done in the previous years, and we have funded 400 dialysing units. We aim to continue raising funds for this vital project next year.

We are looking forward to supporting some new projects in the coming year, and welcome additional requests.

Wishing you all a healthy future. Stay safe.
