Trustees’ Report for 2024
2024 was another busy year for the Society. We were again able to programme two major one day events: at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff in March and at the Royal Academy of Music in London in October. Participants at both of these wellattended events were offered a range of activities including professionally coached solo and group playing sessions, a lunchtime concert and the opportunity to visit a range of trade stands. In keeping with our established format both events ended with a mass playing session for participants.
Recognising the need to support younger players in particular in other parts of the country, we also supported events run by other bodies: we made small grants to Empower, to the Gloucestershire Double Reed Day and the South Coast Double Reed Day, and a more significant contribution to a new initiative by In Harmony working with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra to work with young players in schools in Liverpool.
We continued to operate our new instrument bank, benefitting from a number of generous donations of instruments to be loaned to players at differing levels of ability who would otherwise have struggled to obtain a suitable instrument.
We kept in touch with our members through three issues of Double Reed Magazine as well as through continuing posting on Facebook and other social media. We also started an overhaul of our website to improve our communication with our members including online access to more resources.
The Society’s income from all sources received during 2024 was £27544 and our outgoings came to £23443. With a total surplus of £4101 this left us in a very strong position to plan an even wider programme of activities in the coming years.
