Trustees’ report for 2022

2022 was the first year since the Coronavirus outbreak in which the Society was able to plan a programme of live events. We started in July and August with two summer playing days run in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Music and aimed at younger players in particular. In September we had a well attended Double Reed day in Leicester - an event on a rather larger scale including concerts featuring the premieres of the two new work for oboe commissioned by the Society following our competition the previous year. These works were due for publication in 2023.

In October we held another Double Reed Day in a similar format held jointly with the Royal Academy of Music; this too was well attended attracting a broad group of participants including young players, students and adults, and featured performances by staff and students of the Academy as well as coaching sessions and a closing mass playing session for participants. Both of these events attracted a number of traders. We also supported the well established Gloucestershire Double Reed Day in June.

During the year we kept in touch with our members through three issues of Double Reed News as well as several online newsletters and regular posting on social media including Facebook.

The Society’s income from all sources received in 2022 was £25,343 and our outgoings came to £23,326. Combined with an operating surplus of some £2,500 from 2021 this left the Society in a healthy position to plan a somewhat broader programme of activities in 2023. During the year we had some turnover in our membership; numbers remained broadly stable though we would like to recruit more younger players as we plan more events aimed at this group.

Dear Stephen,

Many thanks for the sample evidence. I have now completed my examination and am satisfied with the accounts already sent.

Before we finalise, have you contacted HMRC to request that a return is not necessary/ have you heard? Or are we having to submit?

Thanking you

Martin

Dear Martin

Sorry for taking so long to send the backup information.

I’m not sure exactly what you’re seeking for the first item. Here’s the bank account entry which I did modify as there was a single payment of £1188 covering two items:

01/02/2022 BANK GIRO CREDIT REF HOWARTH OF LONDON, HOWARTH OF LONDON £188.00 x Advertising £1188 received in a single payment, divided for coding 01/02/2022 BANK GIRO CREDIT REF HOWARTH OF LONDON, HOWARTH OF LONDON £1,000.00 £8,820.42 x Competition sponsorship £1188 received in a single payment, divided for coding

Also attached are the document for committee approval outlining the competition and prizes to be sponsored, email noting approval and an email advising Howarth have agreed to sponsor the oboe prize.

Please let me know if anything else is needed.

Payment to the winner of the bassoon composition prize is covered in the attached email – BDRS Competition Contract. The prize was £1000 as per the earlier documents and 50% was due to be paid as per the email.

There are invoices attached for the remaining 3 items, RAM, Clive Fairburn and Leicester City Council.

Best wishes

Stephen Fuller BDRS Treasurer treasurer@bdrs.org.uk
