The Peter Trust Annual Report to the cl￿rItieS Commissioft, Year-end 2022
(P.E.T.E.R).
The principal purpose of the Trust is to make Provision for East Timorese Education and Relief
For hi.8torical and geogi3phica] reasons East Till￿ is one of the four pjorest countries in the World, in great
need of economic and social developmenL
Now in its twenty fotrth year of ry)litical iudependence the county stiIl lacks an adequate infr8stri￿tUre and
there is a shorfall in native people with the necessary teLhnical, professional and managerial skills that ¢ve
needed for the nation building. Fleatth Cdre and educationa] pmvision are very limited, and unemploymeiil is
high. 'fiie population of one and a quarter million is yOLll￿ With a maian age of twenty years. Each year there
are twenty thousand school leavers.
Althoug%b the East Titnorese homeland and its surrounding se&8 have vatuable mineral and other nattiral
resoiwces these have yet to be fully exploiled to the benefit of the PDpulation at large. Most analysts think it will
ke more than a geneTation for the peopl¢ of East Timor to able to provid¢ for themselves in (￿Y way
adequately. Meanwhile the majority of the people remain 'dirt poor .
The Peter Trust prioritises health care, ¢ducalionltraintng for the young people who comprise the majority of
the population, SLlPPOrtS income geiieration projects, and assists families with tlie developmejit of Incal

within its means thc Trust fvnds a variety of nutrition enbancenient projects.
