PFMC Report
It has been a year of consolidation for the new pavilion and the playing field, with a steadily increasing use of the facilities by both local groups and those from further afield. Children’s parties, special educational needs along with ‘out of town’ soccer and cricket teams have all contributed, over and above local village cricket and tennis teams.
Overall, a stable financial position has been maintained in no small part due to the stampede, but also use of the pavilion by 5 Rivers as a venue for meeting the needs of pupils with special educational requirements. Costs however are significant, particularly grass cutting at £3500 pa and electricity at £2500 pa. The pavilion is a valued asset, but it does require a consistent revenue stream if it is to remain viable.
It would be remiss to mention the stampede without paying tribute to the work of those who over the years have worked to ensure it enjoys the success and wide recognition it has achieved, in particular Paul Morse, and Neil Sollis along with Alfred van Pelt and Tom Duxbury. Both Paul and Neil have indicated that this will be their last year in these roles. As the Stampede scheduled for January was postponed until March it is now only 7 months until the next event. It is critical that we have help in place in the short term to shadow Paul and Neil. Are you able to support the success of this event which really puts Stoke St Gregory on the map? To lose this event which has grown from a comedy pram race to a nationally recognised event would be careless at the least.
At the recent PFMC meeting, it was agreed that Project Play, the initiative led by Danny James, supported by Anne Merrit would be incorporated into the PFMC, to ensure consistency of management approach. Danny and Anne have joined the PFMC representing this project activity. Currently the principal focus is fund raising. The eventual installation of this facility would be another reason for Stoke St Gregory to be a destination.
Finally, thanks should go to Neil Sollis who after many years as a committee member and Chairman of the PFMC, stepped down at the AGM. His knowledge and commitment to the PFMC will be missed.
