Chairman Report 2023-2024
This has been another highly successful year for Core. Thanl<s to securing a new 4 year tapered
lottery grant, we have made good progress in becoming a more sustainable organisation. However,
there are still many challenges with respect to fundraising but for this year at least, we are well on
track.
This year in particular we have been blessed by many local businesses/coMmunity members
recognising how important Core are and I would like to say a special thanl<s to them,.
Landsmith's Solicitors who made us their charity of the year, organised an amazing corporate night
at the BierKeller in Nottingham where much fun and merriment was had by all as well as a sizeable
chunk of money raised, £4K! Most importantly it gave Core an opportunity to network and spread
the good word about the work we do and we are hoping to build further on some of these
relationshi ps this coming year.
I would also like to mention the kind fundraising by Ash Medley and his associates £1500, where all
proceeds from well-known singers/comedian acts were donated to Core.
Other notable resldents/community members such as Allan Carlton have a150 donated towards
specific projects like the Christmas Party, making a massive difference to the quality of the event
held, £2K.
Of course iys not always been about receiving big donations (as lovely as they are) but l also want to
recognise those who give their time and expertise including; Andy Turton who assembled our shed
free of charge, Rachel Briggs who drafted our lease pro bono and Doreen who is over 90 and still
knits us a full mouse choir to raffle off every year.
Core continues to rely on all of its wonderful volunteers, without their free time and dedication, we
simply could not exist.
Thank you to everyone for your generous community spirit.
Norman Lord
Chairman

Question and comments: Maggie asked about how we had been involved with the
Stacey Dooly show-we explained that we had been filmed receiving donated
blankets,

ers
This year has been another amazing year.for Core. We continue to run over 40
services and activities and we are continually prepared to try new things with a view
to siipporting the community. We are particularly happy with our succes5 in
fundraising this year, as we have nol only ensured that we have filled oui. Lottery
Gap for this year but have made good headway towards next year too. This saSd, we
never sit on our laurels as we have to find half our budgot for year 3 and three
quarters in year 4. Every penny countsl

CORE . Calverton, Oasis, Resources, Education
Our relationship with the worf(ing men's club remains strong and mutually supportive.
This year we signed a long term four-year lease with the club and would like £0 Ihank
them again for their ongoing support and flexibility.
We're really looking fO￿ard to the year ahead with new ideas around social eating, a
sponsored walk and a big open day for Core in September.
Once again, none of this would be made possible without all our wonderful
volunteers, trustees and associates within the community. We continue to believe
that people need people and feeling part of a community empowers people in their
everyday lives.

Financial Yeview
We are part funded by The National Lottery Community Fund whiGh Is on a reduGing
tapered basis over 4 years (2023-2027). This year we have nearly compleled the first
year of our Healthy Happy Hub ProjeGt (May to May). The Lottery have funded
approxirnalely two thirds of our overall costs this year and we have successfully
funded the reinaining amount through smaller grants and fundraising.
Reserves Pollcy
Our reserves policy has two main objectives;
To ensur8 we have sufficient reserves to draw on sl)ould we have gaps In the
funding we need to maintain our day-to-day operations.
To ensure that, should we need to close the operation due to long-term lack of
funding, we can meet all liabilities, eg redundancy costs. lease obligations.
Our annual rovenue costs are approxlmatcly £1 Ook. We aim to maintain a level of
reserves which would meet costs for at least 6 months and ideally up to 12 months.
This requires us to hold reserves within a range of £50-100k.
Financial Risks
Next year (2024-2025) The Lottery will fund eovo of our overall costs and we wlll
need to find 40 % ourselves, 2025-2026 will be 500101500/0 and 2026-2027 will be
75 /0125 /0. Previous funders towards our funding gap have included Severn Trent
Water, National Grld, Nottingham County Council, Coalfields Regeneration Trust,
Gedling Borough Council and The Co-op. We have secured £4k yearly for 3 years
(2023124-2025126) froffl Masonic Charitable Trust. We have also receiitly secured
£4k from the UK Shared Prosperlty Fund via Gedling Borough CounGiI.
We hold our own fundraising events e.g. fashion show, Christmas Party, Corporate
eventlGharily of the yearwith Landsmith Solicitors etc. and we seek sponsorship and
donations from businesses.
We achieve some of our income from making small charges to our clients, but only
where they Gan afford them. Lack of ability to pay does not exclude anyone from our
seNices and activities.

GORE - Calverton, Oasis, Resources, Education
Whilst we rernain confident that we can continue to secure grants and donations, we
recognise that the challenge each year increases and the risk is that we may not be
able to find sufficient fuiiding to fill the increaslng gaps. However, the charity is
currently in a strong and healthy position and we will continue lo closely monitor our
income and expenditure to ensure we keep on track.
