Copley Village Hall Annual Report 2021

Due to the impact of Covid-19 Copley Village Hall remained closed for use until the Summer of 2021. However, the Committee were able to undertake a number of improvements and essential repairs in readiness for when Covid-19 restrictions allowed its use again.

The rear elevation (South facing at the rear of the Hall) needed reroofing and a structural survey was undertaken in order to gain a more accurate picture of what was needed. Three quotes were obtained and the contract for repairs given to J Davis in the early part of 2021. Work was completed in the July of the same year. The cost was £10,400, which included a Durham County Council grant of £6,450. The balance being met by Village Hall funds.

A new fire door was required at the front of the building (exiting via the rear of the Hall) and this was also completed in the early Spring.

The Hall reopened in the summer operating under Government Guidelines in July.

Further remedial work was undertaken to the Store Room at the rear of the Hall, which included the removal of the old plaster, damp proofing and re-rendering of both the walls and ceiling.

The Main Hall was redecorated and new window curtains added as part of the ongoing refurbishment. Further painting of the rest of the Hall will be undertaken in the early part of 2022.

Public events resumed in the late Summer/early Autumn of 2021 thanks to the hard work of various Hall Committee/Members.

The loss of revenue from the pandemic was in part counteracted by various local government grants and enabled much of the refurbishment and repair for which the Committee are extremely grateful. The Hall is now the only focal point in the village with regard to social gathering and remains an essential part of Copley Village Life.
