OBJECTS OF THE CHARITY

To promote the Christian Faith, especially amongst children and young people, particularly by camping and related activities in Wales and in furtherance of this aim to provide spiritual and pastoral counselling and care to children and young people and to encourage them in the Christian faith.

CCIW OBJECTIVES FOR 2024

REPORT FOR THE YEAR

With thanks to the Lord, the summer of 2024 saw another fruitful season of CCIW camps. Over six weeks, we were once again able to run camps in three beautiful locations across mid-Wales. Three Junior camps for ages 11–17 took place at Brynglas Farm near Tywyn, two further Junior camps were held at Dolgoch near Abergynolwyn, and one Senior camp for ages 17–22 took place at Llys Andreas, our established base near Barmouth.

Altogether, 408 young people attended the camps this year. In keeping with CCIW’s commitment that no one should miss out because of financial circumstances, we continue to provide financial support where needed. Discounts are available for siblings and for families facing financial hardship. This year 16 campers benefited from bespoke fee reductions; 99 campers received 2nd siblings discounts; 27 received 3rd siblings discounts totalling 142 discounts altogether.

The camps offer young people from towns and cities a unique opportunity to enjoy God’s creation—hills, beaches, and open countryside—often for the first time. Many build friendships that last well beyond their week at camp, meeting others of similar age and faith from different churches and backgrounds. Returning campers often speak of how the week helps them grow in confidence and independence, as they try new activities in a safe and encouraging environment.

Central to every camp is time spent exploring the Bible together. Campers listen to Bible talks, join in group discussions, and are encouraged to ask questions about the Christian faith. These times often prompt personal reflection on spiritual matters and help young people think more deeply about their relationship with God. Alongside these benefits, the physical and social activities of camp promote wellbeing and teamwork, while the local communities also benefit through CCIW’s regular use of local suppliers and businesses.

The camps continue to attract a good balance of boys and girls, representing a wide mix of ages and backgrounds from both Wales and England. Publicity through our website, printed

materials, and direct contact with past campers helps spread the word, while our digital newsletter keeps supporters informed. As of this year, 648 subscribers receive regular updates through our Mailchimp newsletter.

The trustees of CCIW extend sincere thanks to the many volunteers who make the camps possible. Around 317 people served on site this summer, with many others supporting in practical and administrative ways behind the scenes. Volunteers come from churches across the UK and abroad, offering their time and skills with great generosity. All officers complete DBS checks and provide references, ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding. Many willingly give up their annual leave to serve, motivated by gratitude for what they have received in Christ.

We look back with gratitude for another year of the Lord’s provision and look ahead in faith, praying that He will continue to use this ministry to reach and bless young people across the UK—for His glory and in His Name.

CCIW POLICIES

Discounts – CCIW operates a policy that no camper is turned away on grounds of financial difficulty. Discounts are also available for families where two or more children book. Further information is available on request from the Financial Secretary.

Investment Policy – CCIW will only invest surplus balances as cash deposits in UK based banks or building societies.

Reserves Policy – CCIW only holds reserves to ensure that equipment beyond its useful life is replaced on an ongoing basis, to fund new planned initiatives and as a contingency for unforeseeable events. As at 31/12/2024 CCIW had cash balances of £41,937. The aim of the trustees is to maintain the cash balances at a prudent level to deal with cashflow management and contingency for unforeseen events. The cost of replacing the CCIW equipment is estimated to be over £50,000.

Risk management - The trustees are continually reviewing the major strategic and operational risks which the charity faces and has established systems to enable regular reports to be produced so that the necessary steps can be taken to lessen these risks. References are taken up for all on-site volunteers and CCIW is registered with the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) to undertake criminal record checks of all volunteers.
