## **OBJECTS OF THE CHARITY**

To promote the Christian Faith, especially amongst children and young people, particularly by camping and related activities in Wales and in furtherance of this aim to provide spiritual and pastoral counselling and care to children and young people and to encourage them in the Christian faith.

## **CCIW OBJECTIVES FOR 2022**

-

-

-

- To run six, week-long camps in the months of July and August at the sites of Llys Andreas, Brynglas Farm and Dolgoch

- To promote the Christian faith through faithful preaching from the Bible and small-group interactive Bible studies

- To provide a safe and fun environment in which young people can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities

## **REPORT FOR THE YEAR**

With thanks to the Lord, six weeks of camp were again able to run during the Summer of 2022, in three different locations: three Junior camps (for ages 11-17yrs) ran at Brynglas Farm, near Tywyn; two Junior camps at Dolgoch, near Abergynolwyn, and one Senior camp (for 17-22yrs) at Llys Andreas, a fixed site near Barmouth.

Camps have not run for the last 2 years because of COVID restrictions, so it was a delight to begin up again. Altogether **325 campers came on camp** . It is CCIW’s policy that no camper is refused a place through being unable to pay. Therefore, our pricing structure has reductions for siblings attending camp from the same family, and for those who come from families with low incomes. 25 campers received a custom reduction in fees. 63 received 2[nd] child discounts and 17 received 3[rd] child discounts.

The camps enable teenagers from deprived urban areas to experience camping and outdoor activities within the rural settings of beautiful countryside, hills and beaches which they may not otherwise have the opportunity to visit. Campers are introduced to other teenagers and Christians beyond their own church community. Long-lasting friendships are developed through these shared experiences which bring them back to camp year-on-year, and individual campers are challenged to try new activities in a safe, supportive environment that gives them a sense of achievement. The time set aside during camps to hear and discuss the Bible’s message with many opportunities to ask practising Christians about their faith, positively encourages campers’ to consider their own personal spiritual and emotional development. Whilst the activities have both health and social benefits for the participating campers, the local economy also benefits through CCIW regularly using local suppliers and facilities and promoting the area as a tourist destination to campers and their families.

There is a roughly equal balance of boys and girls who attend across CCIW, with an even spread of ages between 11-22yrs and from a range of socio-economic backgrounds. CCIW is widely publicised through leaflets posted to every past camper, an online presence and also a new circular (via email and post) informing supporters of current developments within the charity. Therefore campers come not just from Wales, but also from a wide range of localities across England.

Recognition of the hundreds voluntary work hours ‘donated’ to CCIW before, during and post-camp must be given with heart-felt thanks and gratitude from all the CCIW trustees. We are thankful for the commitment of so many in both the running and setting up of the camps. Without the army of willing volunteers and supporters who give of their time, energy, skill and resources, these camps would not be possible to run on such a charitable basis. Just the number of onsite officers who volunteered on a camp this Summer came to around 250 people, with a number more who give to CCIW in many ways both on- and off-site. CCIW’s volunteers have different ages and backgrounds, come from churches all over the UK and elsewhere, each officer providing two references and completing DBS, in order to facilitate the running of camp and the safe supervision of campers, often at the sacrifice of their own personal holiday time from paid work. They give willingly, because they themselves have been given much in Christ – “Thanks be to God for His Indescribable Gift!” (2Cor.9v15).

We pray the Lord would continue to bless this ministry to teenagers and young people for the forthcoming years ahead and continue to be a blessing to all involved in this work, for His Name’s sake.

## **CCIW POLICIES**

**Discounts** – CCIW operates a policy that no camper is turned away on grounds of financial difficulty. Discounts are also available for families where two or more children book. Further information is available on request from the Financial Secretary.

**Investment Policy** – CCIW will only invest surplus balances as cash deposits in UK based banks or building societies.

**Reserves Policy** – CCIW only holds reserves to ensure that equipment beyond its useful life is replaced on an ongoing basis, to fund new planned initiatives and as a contingency for unforeseeable events. As at 31/12/2022 CCIW had cash balances of **£30,459.** The aim of the trustees is to maintain the cash balances at a prudent level to deal with cashflow management and contingency for unforeseen events. The cost of replacing the CCIW equipment is estimated to be over £50,000.

**Risk management -** The trustees are continually reviewing the major strategic and operational risks which the charity faces and has established systems to enable regular reports to be produced so that the necessary steps can be taken to lessen these risks. References are taken up for all volunteers and CCIW is registered with the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) to undertake criminal record checks of all volunteers.
