Campaign for the Arts is a Company limited by guarantee whose only Member5 are the Trustee
The objectives of the charity and the powers of the Trustees are set out in the Con#itution as are
the regulatlons COn￿rnIng the appointment of new Trustees.
The trustees present thelr rem with the finandal statements of the tharity forthe year ended 31
March 2023. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities..
Statement of Recommended Practice applicabfe to tharities preparing their account5 in
accordance wlth the Finandal Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republk of Ireland IFRS
1021 (effective l January 20191.
The trustees are reSP)n￿ble for keeping proper accounting retords which disclose the financial
sltion of the charity with reasonable accuracy at anytime and enable them to ensure that the
accounts COM￿ wth the CompaniesAtt 2006.
They are alw responsible for safeguardin8 the assets of the charity and hence for taklng
reasonable steps for the prevention and detecti<￿ of fraud and other irre8ularitles.

This has been a year of significant growth and developrnent for the Campaign forthe Arts.

By incorporating the pUl￿1t Campaign for the Arts. and subsequently relaunthing as the Campaign
for the Arts. we increased our supporter-base and reach to 250.CK(I people. making us the l?r8est
alliance of arts supporters in the UL The merger als0 enabled us to:

develop and introduce a new visual identlty and website-
upgrade our systems for finance and operations.

Our relaunched organisation made an Immedlate impresslon and impact. In February 2023. we
were widely acknowledged in print and social media coverage as having played a crucial role in the
dea￿On of the Scottish Government to abandon a £6.6m cut to the funding of Creative Scotland.
Hundreds of people used Campaign for the Arts resources to send a message to their
representatives. thousands si8ned and shared our online petition. and our social media posts on
the issue were seen over half a million time& Through our campaigning on this iSSLte, we doubled
the size of our supporter-ba5e in Scotland.
Monltorfn8 thè arts sectorfs recovery fr￿ Co¥ld-19
In October 2022 and January 2023, we. published analyses of changing levels of arts atten¢Jance in
England, in partnership with Data Culture Change. These timely reports highlighted the significant
and on8oing impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the arts and cultural sector, and charted the
progress of different art forms towards recovery. They We￿ of widespread interest and use to the
sector, sparking coverage in The Stage and Arts Professional. They helped arts sector support
organisations to evidence trend5 and risks. includin8 in a successful representation for the
extension of Cyltural Tax Reliefs in the 2023 Spring Bud8eL
Throughout rhe year. we coordinated regular meetlngs with sector support"organlsatlons and
umbrella bodie5 in the cultural sector, to keep abreast of Trssues and to leam and share
infomiation.

Representiwd our supporters
We made a Spring Budget representation to HM Treasury in partnership with the Cultural Leaming
Ailiance. substantiating and updating the case for an'Arts Premium. to be delivered to secondary
schools. By the end of the year, our online petition on this I￿￿e had been signed by more than
34,000 people.
In March 2023 we wefe Invited by the Department for Culture. Media and Sport IDCMS) to meet
with the Arts Minister. In order to discuss the Campaign for the Arts, con￿nS and prlorltles.
Throughout the year, we attended conferences. contributed to discussion forums and held
meetings to represent the interests of the arts and ovr supporters.
We were invited to join the Citlzens. Forum for Broadcastin& coordinated by the Voke of the
Listener and Viewer IVLW, to represent the arts and our supporters In d15cussions about the future
of public selv1￿ broadcasting.

and Wales ketween 2C(19 and 2021;
Pandemic impact on the art5 and creattve industries In the UK.
We created Charts to showcase this data and to illustrate trends more clearlv.
In November 2022, we published contextual information and analysi5 of Arts Council England's
2023-26 Investment Programme, to make the process and its outcomes as clear a5 possible to
wider audience. We also invited Campaign for the Arts supporters in Enwand to Share their
thoughts on the outcomes of the Investment Pro8rammÈ vla an online sur¥ey. using the results to
infoTrn our advocacy and public ststements.
Supp¢)rting local inltlatlves
In Febnjary 2023. we informed campai￿ forthe Art5 SUPWters in AberdeenDf major proposed
changes to the funding of thew cultural organi5ations by the Oty Council. and supplied evidente
and contact inf0m￿tIOn to enable local people to engage constructively with their councillors on
the prop05als.

Debtors (including trade debtors and loans receivable) are measured on initial recognition at
