THE ALTON COLLEGE FOUNDATION
Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 March 2025
The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The principal activity of the company is that of advancing the education of students attending HSDC Alton College (formerly Alton College) (the 'College’), by providing or assisting in the provision of equipment and facilities, and to support such charitable purposes as are connected with the College as the directors shall determine.
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities In December 2024 we celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the formation of the Alton College Foundation. It has been a remarkable achievement and a real success story for what can be achieved in the state funded 6th Form College segment. The foresight of the Founders, in particular our past Chairman Nicky Branch, has enabled the Foundation to thrive and grow into what it has become today. During the past year we introduced two new Scholarship subjects. The first sponsored by Mrs Rosemary Andreae being for Drawing and the second by our long-term sponsors, the Ellis Campbell Foundation, for the Space Technologies Programme; an exciting new programme introduced by the College in 2024.
In January 2025 we were pleased to hold very successful interviews and added a further 20 scholars to our growing list, now totalling 440. For this occasion, we introduced a new and more vigorous application process which was instrumental in producing excellent candidates for the, albeit reduced, number of Scholarships on offer this year. The award ceremony, held on 6 March 2025, was a great opportunity for scholars and sponsors to meet in person and celebrate their achievements together. In addition to the award of scholarships we were pleased to be able to support a number of students at the College this year through the Student Support Fund. In 2024 we reached an agreement with the College by which we would help the procurement of funding for specific College projects in return for a commission, which in turn provides us with a new funding stream. This agreement does not compromise our independence as a charity or our ability to conduct our own fundraising and meets the criteria set out by the Charity Commission. This initiative has already proved successful, with both the College and its students, as well as the Company, ultimately benefiting from a grant secured from East Hampshire District Council to purchase five replacement tents for the Duke of Edinburgh provision at the College.
Continuing to recruit Sponsors is vitally important to us and we were very pleased to welcome our new sponsors this year and will continue to encourage organisations and individuals to support our work in the year to come. FINANCIAL REVIEW
Reserves policy
In October 2021, the Directors drafted and approved a reserves policy. The Directors agreed the level of the reserve should be £8,000.
FUTURE PLANS
The board of directors remains focused on ensuring the Foundation evolves and grows to enable it to respond to the challenges faced by the College and students in a post pandemic era which we know has been and remains a challenging time for everybody in the education sector.
In the forthcoming year we will look to raise funding to ensure we are able to support students, the College and importantly our administration costs.

Independent examiner's statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:
- accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of the 2006 Act; or
Zz the accounts do not accord with those records; or 3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of Section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
