## **ECTON VILLAGE HALL Registered Charity 1078962**

## **ANNUAL REPORT 2022-2023**

## **AIMS**

**Ecton Village Hall aims to provide a facility for the benefit of the residents of Ecton to provide and assist in the provision of facilities for their recreation and leisure. This includes providing facilities for meetings, lectures, classes and other forms of recreation aimed at improving residents wellbeing.**

## **INTRODUCTION**

This Annual Report and accompanying accounts provide an overview of activity, income and expenditure for the village hall. They illustrate the breadth of activities, the varied use of the building and the consequent wear and tear. The Trustees are grateful for all the support they receive from volunteers, residents and visitors who make the facility so vibrant.

## **ACTIVITY in 2023-24**

Last year was another busy year for the Village Hall. The main event being the celebration of the King’s Coronation when the village came together to party. We also organised our familiar regular events, the BBQ, Quiz, Christmas brunch as well as a cocktail evening. All events were well supported. We decided to offer a monthly lunch club through the winter months, and this was very popular again. Other bookings continued to be good although we were sorry to say goodbye to the Church group who were no longer permitted to meet on a Saturday.

The building began to show its age and we had to carry out a number of repairs notably to the flat roof and to the toilets. In addition, we had the main hall and lounge decorated and we had to replace the rear fire doors.

We reviewed the cleaning contract and decided to change cleaners, this has been very successful and achieved a saving on expenditure.

We decided that we should register the kitchen with the environmental health department, on investigation we had to register Ecton Brew and the Ecton Golden Oldies separately. A number of Trustees completed the food handling certificate and we were very pleased when we were awarded 5stars for both. The lease for the building came to an end this year and a new lease has been agreed along with a rent increase. The new lease is for a ten year term rather than 25 as before. In conclusion we felt we had a good year and sincere thanks are due to all the Trustees for their contribution and hard work over the year.

The surplus income this year was £2,789

The end of the year the bank balance was a very positive £19,859.

## **RISKS**

Looking forward we hope our income can be maintained at the same or similar levels. Trustees are conscious of the need to maintain funds at a level that allows for all necessary upkeep and repairs due to the age of the building. Cost of living increases create ongoing pressures. We plan to continue with our fundraising events in 2024/25. Our reserves give no concerns for the immediate future.

## **GOVERNANCE**

The Trustee group remained unchanged during 2023-24 with 10 members. Business is conducted through meetings held monthly or bimonthly.

The accounts were audited in accordance with Charity Commission guidelines and no issues were identified or highlighted.
