GSD 2000
Trustees. Report
The trustees present the annual report together with the financial statements of the charity for the year
ended 31 March 2025.
Objectives and activities
The objectives of the Charfty are to relieve the suffering and distress of unwanted, abandoned or badly-
treated German Shepherd Dogs by rescuing and re-homing such dog5. GSD 2000 does not have its
own premises but uses licensed, registered kenne15 for its rescue dogs. If an owner's circumstances
change, previously re-homed dogs are accepted back into charity care at any time of their lives, which
ensures life5ong security for the dog. Older dogs and those with ongoing medical problems may be
placed in homes on a Charity Assisted basis, which means the dogs enjoy life in a proper home instead
of in a boardlng kennel. The Charity funds some of their veterinary care - and sometlmes their food if a
special diet is recommended by the veterinary surgeon.
The Charity rescues and re-homes dogs mainly in the South-west of the UK. We do not have Stray
Contracts with local ￿uncl Is. We do not import resi=ue dogs from abroad and have no plans to do so.
The Charity has around 750 members, many of whom have been involved for over twenty-five years.
Several of these people are Life Members.
Public benefrt
The Trustees keep in mlnd the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit, and often work with
Social Services. dog wardens and other charities. Whenever possible, we help people who have to give
up their pets due to housing problems (landlords not accepting animals), relationship break-ups where
a partner is leftwith a dog they Gan'tcope with, ordogs needing a new home when their owner becomes
seriously111 or dies.
Achievements and performance
We are very grateful to Members and Supporters who have continued to send in donations throughout
the year. The GSD 2000 shop at Holsworthy provides a steady income which helps towards kennelllng
costs. It's also a popular plaGe in the town for bargain hunters or people just wanting lo browse and
have a chat with the friendly staff and volunteers.
Owners are feeling the effects of cost increases generally and especially in veterinary costs. Some dogs
come into rescue needing long-overdue treatment which adds to our vet bills and also means that the
dog has to stay longer in kennels before it's healthy enough to be able to go to a new home.
Although large dogs like our German Shepherds cost more to keep, there are still enthusiasts out there
who Wdnt them. Luckily we've taken in some lovely dogs during this year and they've been matched to
ideal owners.
Financial review
Expenditure for 202412025 was £123.763 an increase of £26,516 on 202312024's expenditure which
was £97,247. Most of this increase was veterinary costs plus extra cost to the shop for the National
Living Wage hourly rate rise.
Income from all sourGes: subscriptlons. shop, money-raising activities and donations for the 202412025
period was £116,809. This shows a de¢rease of£117,147 against the previous year (which included a
£150,000 legacy} where income was £233,956.
Total expenditure has increased and totsl income during the year has decreased.

Trustees. Report (contlnued)
Reserves
At the year end, total reserves stood at £725,042 which includes restricted funds of £69,549. The total
reserves figure for 202312024 was £731,996. A large unrestricted fund is purposely maintained as the
Charity's objective is to re-home all its dogs with a lifetime guarantee to come back into care and be
either re-homed or kept for the remainder of their lives. Therefore funds need to be available for any
emergency- or if a number of dogs are suddenly retumed with serious but treatsble medical conditions.
The Trustees acknowledge the underlying concem regarding being properly prepared for the
unexpected and having the ability to access cash immediately. Having the reserves gives the Charity
a safety net during uncertain times. We are still several hundred thousand pounds away from being
able to purchase our own kennel property and staff it with suitably qualified people.
Cash balances
The total bank and cash held in all accounts at the end of March 2025 was £731,449 compared to the
total cash and bank balance of £730.658 at the end of March 2024.
Plans for future periods
The Charity will continue to raise funds to rescue and re-home Gemian Shepherd Dogs as required for
the lifetime of every dog that passes through the Charity.
Structure, governance and management
Nature of governing document
GSD 2000 is governed by a Constitution adopted on the 9th October 1999, as amended on 13th
December 1999. GSD 2000 was registered with the Charity Commission on 10th January 2000.
Recruitment and appointment of trustees
The Trustees of GSD 2000 are appointed by a majority of the members present at the charity's Annual
General Meeting.
