TRAUMA CARE
REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2025
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectlves and alms
The charity's objectives and aims can be summarised as follows.
To advance the study and practlce of trauma care.
To provlde treatment, care and asslstance to all those who requlre medlcal treatment.
To carry out research into all areas of trauma healthcare and traditional medical
systems and remedles throughout the world and to disseminate the useful results of
that research.
Ensurlng our work delivers our alms
We review our aims, objectives, and activities each year. This revlew looks at what we achieved and the
outcomes of our work in the previous 12 months. The review looks at the success of each key activity and
the benefits they have brought to those groups of people we are set up to help. The revlew also helps us to
ensure that our aims, objectives and activities remain focused on our stated purposes.
We have referred to the guidance contained in the Charlty Commlsslon's general guidance on public beneflt
when reviewing our aims and objectives and in planning our future activities, In particular, the trustees
conslder how planned activities will contribute to the aims and oblectlves they have set.
The focus of our work
The focus of Trauma Care is to promote high standards of patlent care through education, teaching, and
research that Is affordable to all members of the team carlng for severely injured patients.
Grantmaking
The charity's grantmaking policy is to make grants In which the trustees will be assured that any grant made
by the charity contributes towards Improving the outcomes of trauma victims.
PUBLIC BENEFIT
Artlvlty to achleve charltable purposes
l) Conferences:
The Charity has arranged two multidisciplinary conferences in the past year lone In central England
and one in Dublin). Both conferences had excellent feedback, although it is a continuing challenge to
provlde a high-quallty educational event at a price which can be afforded by all members of the
dlverse team of people Involved in the care of the severely injured.
2) Webinars;
The webinar series remains very popular, with 12 taking place in the past year, with as many as 500
participants. This format was initlally an innovation during the covid lockdowns, but has now
become an important part of the delivery of public benefit by the Charity.

3) Publlcatlons:
"Trauma Journal
The charity contlnues to publlsh the sclentlfic Journal 'Trauma" which Is available free to all
members. We are actively pursuing the indexlng of articles In this journal within the main scientific
search engines. It is notable that the acceptance rate has fallen to about 200A, which means that we
are belng able to reject lower quallty manuscrlpts.
The 'Trauma Care Manual.
The 3 Edition of our most popular publication is now in print.
The "Pre-Hos
ital Manual"
A 2, edition of this book is in progress.
The "Paediatric Trauma Manual"
The first editlon of this new work is in progress.
The 'Women's Trauma Manual"
Is in the early stages of development- the chapter list agreed and contributors contacted. Joint
badging wlth the RCOG who have provided a potentlal co-editor.
The Trauma Care monograph "Humanitarian Medicine and Disaster Relief" (author Prof Tony
Redmond) was published thls year.
Chairman's Re
ort 2024-25
Following the appointment of new Trustees and Prof Tim Coats taklng over as Chalr of the Trustee Board the
Charity has undergone a period of self-analysls and reflectlon. The Trustees have declded that the exlstlng
Charitable Trust format is not suitable for the future of the Charity and the process of converting to a
Charitable Incorporate Organisation ICIO} has been initiated. The Trustees anticipate that this will be
completed durlng the 2025126 year.
A strategic revlew has been initiated {led by a trustee with experience of strateglc plannlng), almlng to glve a
clear and agreed future direction across the organisation. There has also been a self-analysis of Trustee skllls,
which has revealed gaps that will feed into the recruitment process for additional trustees In the next year.
On the positive side, our webinars remain extremely popular and are a source of new members. Our recent
conferences have had record numbers of attendees with great feedback. We are malntainlng our reputatlon
for providing high quality education that is affordable across the team who are caring for the severely
injured patient.
