Organisation and management The Charity is govèmed by the members of the associatlon who determine strategic direction and policy. The day to day running of the Charity is carried out by the Management Committee. Aims and objects The Charity's objectives are set out in its goveming document and are surmised as below: a} to furthef the religious and other charitable work of Sikhism b) to hold land and buildings upon trust to permit them to bé used as a place of worship and meeting house cl to provide suitable accommodation and an environment in whlch to encourage the study of Sikhism and to promote public interest and recognition of the Sikh Religion in the local and surrounding area. The Sikh Ethos The athos of Sikh Gurdwara is centred on recognition of the complete equallty of all human beings, including the full equality of women, and a total commitrnent to a life of service to God through Servi to His Creation. This in tum, requires Sikh to work for personal self- improvement, while at the same time striving for social justice for all people. In the closing words of our Ardas,'Sarbatkabhalla' (the well-being of all). It is therefore important that the ethos of our Gurdwara is reflective and supportive of what it means to be a Sikh. Whilè our religion respects the intsgrity and equality of all people, and respects and supports the right of freedom of worship, the path of Sikhism has its own discipline and commitment, whith requires a distinctive Sikh ethos in our Gurdwara. An important part of our faith is 'SEWA' an act of 'Selfless Service, towards others., this takes the torm of various initiatives and adivilies either as an individual or collectively with the community. Gurdwara Activities The Gurdwara is open to public seven days a week for daily & evening ServIS with the main activities taking place on Sunday Five key festivals are celebrated periodically throughout the year Members of all communities are encouraged to leam more about Sikhism and partiCiP*e in aclivities as appropriate. The Gurdwara facilttales Birth, Marriage and funeral services in accordan to bolh UK clvil law and Sikh Rehat Maryada (code of Sikh conduct). Community activities The Gurdwara supports the community in facilitating specific activities for the Women, Youth and general activities for the Sikh community with extemal partners. The Gurdwara facilitates public visits from Schools, Teathers, Police, MP'S, NHS and other Servi providing agencies l organisations and residents. The Gurdwara also supports a number of seminars conferences facilitated by Ihe Police, NHS, L¢)cal Authority depariments and other service providing agencies l Ofganisations. The Gurdwara also founded the Doncaster Punjabi Education Board which is a charitable organisation in its own right to develop the language and wlture of the Punjab. Volunteers The Gurdwara is led by community volunteers from trustees, management committee members to kitchen support staff and is an importanl resource for the all the Gurdwara's faith and community work. Prlncipal Funding Source The Gurdwara's main Sour of income is donations. Despite the economic climate it is en¢ouraging to seè thè generosity of the community. Page 2
Sri Guru Kalgidhar Gurdwara Doncastar The trustees present their annual report l¢ontlnued) for the year ended 30th September 2023 Statement of Public Benefit In planning our activities during the year the management committee has considered thé Charity Commissions Guidance on public benefit The core part of our strategy is community welfare and education, the Gurdwara foms the hub of working with extemal partnets, statutory Servi providers and other communities to work towards community integration and cohesion by inviting statutory service providers to facilitate seminars and raise awareness of seNices available to the Sikh community. Reserves policy The Charity aims to keep sufficient funds as free reseN8s to cover 6 months overheads. At the psent time. this has not been possible because of the money spent on the Community Centfe but the Trustees intend to build the reserves up again to previous levels. statement of trustees. responsibilities Charity law requires the trustees lo ppare financial statements for each financial year which give a Irue and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity at the year end and of its incoming resources and resources expend8d during that year. The tNstees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records whlch dlsclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensL¢re that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for safeguarding ihe assets of the charity and hènce for taking reasonable steps for the prevèntion and dètection of fraud and other irregularities. Independent examiners report to the trustees of Sri Guru Kalgidhar Gurdwara Doncaster for the year ended 30th September 2023 I report on the financial statements of the tharity for the year ended 30th September 2023 which are set out on pages 5 to 7. Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner The tharity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The tharity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144{2) of the Charities Act 2011 {the 2011 Act) and that an independent éxamination is needed. It is my responsibility lo.. examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act- follow thè procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(51(b) of the 2011 Act; and state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent examinerfs report My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of tre accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disdosures in the aOUnt5, and seeking explanations from you as trustees conceming any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair viev and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. Sri Guru Kalgidhar Gurdwara Doncaster Notes to the financial statsments for the year ended 30th Sèptember 2023 Accounting policles Basis of preparation These financial stat8ments have been prepared under the historical cost basis and in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 and relaled Regulalions. Ihe Statement of Recommended Practi "Accounling and Reporting by Charities" issued in January 2015 and applicable accounting standards. As the charity's level of income is below £250,0(J) the management committèe has opted for the accounts to be prepared in a receipts and payment basis eXpt in respect of payments for fixed assets and capital grants. This is in accordance with the Charity Commission guidelines for small char*ties and is seen as more appropriate for this project. Fund Accounting Incoming resources that may b8 applied for the charities general purposes are treated as unrestricted incoming resources and are credited to the unrestricted fund. Where a donation or gRnt is required to be used for a 5pec¢fic purpose, the amount concemed is treated as reslricted income and is credited to the appropriate restricted fund. 1.3 Tangible Fixed Assets The freehold GUwara building and Community Centre are stated at cost plus capitalised additions. No depreciation is provided as the trustees consider that this remains a fair reflection of current value. Trustees remuneration, benefits and expenses There were no trustees, remuneration or other benefits for the yèar ended 30th September 2023 nor for the year ended 30th September 2022.
