4. Chair’s report
Welcome to this year’s celebration of 1[st] Lee Scout Group and AGM, especially those of you that have recently joined the Group.
Every year I find myself amazed by how much the Group has achieved. We are still growing and now host Land Explorers. The fact that every section has sizable waiting lists underlines the value that you place on the experiences and skills that your young people gain from Scouting. The partnership and communication between parents, carers and Leaders is vital so please keep it up.
The Group finances are healthy and we have big plans to improve the facilities here at the HQ. We are working on a refurbishment of the toilets and exploring alternative sources of energy. The coordination of these projects takes time and unfortunately our team of people is shrinking, so please, if anyone can spare a couple of hours a month to help the Board of Trustees you would be most welcome.
I would like to thank the other members of the Board of Trustees for all of the hard work that they do in the background to help the Leaders. I am stepping down as Chair but will remain a Trustee, continuing to support Alex and the rest of the Team.
I want to close, as always, by saying a massive thank you to all of the Leadership Team, including helpers and Young Leaders; their dedication and commitment are the foundation that makes Scouting at 1[st] Lee such an amazing experience.
Thanks Yours in Scouting Keith Dickerson Chair

5. Group Lead Volunteer’s Report
The past 12 months have been a shining testament to the incredible spirit and dedication of our entire group—especially our amazing volunteers and inspiring young people.
At 1st Lee on the Solent, we’ve continued to deliver an enriching and adventurous programme designed around four key goals: Skills for Life, Adventure, the Outdoors, and New Experiences. Time and again, our young people have embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and resilience, growing into more confident, capable versions of themselves.
We’ve grown again this year, welcoming new members into our ever-expanding Scouting family—a reflection of the vibrant and inclusive environment we’ve all worked so hard to create. But we can’t do it alone. As always, we’re looking to strengthen our team. We still have some key gaps—especially for hands-on helpers and members to serve on our Board of Trustees. If you or someone you know is ready to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
Finally, a huge thank you. To every single volunteer, whether out front inspiring young people or working tirelessly behind the scenes: BRAVO. Your dedication, time, and passion continue to create life-shaping memories for our young people—and we are so proud to be on this journey with you.
Yours in Scouting Pete Giffin Group Lead Volunteer

6a. Treasurer’s Report
Year Ending 31[st] March 2025
The group ended this financial year with funds of £18,517 which is an increase on the previous year of £4,795.
The lettings income of £6,745 is slightly higher than the previous year and remains an important part of the Group’s income. The fees from hiring out the hall to our regular hirers have remained the same after the price increase in January 2024.
In the year we have been fortunate to receive several grants. The first being £5,000 from Gosport Borough Council to help fund the building upgrades. We also received £950 from Hampshire County Council which was used to purchase extra camping equipment. Tesco ‘Stronger Starts’ have donated £880 for sports equipment; 75% of this donation has been received and the further 25% will be paid when all equipment has been purchased and proof of purchase is forwarded to Tesco.
We have received a gift aid payment of £3,044.68 for the period 01.01.2024 – 31.12.2024.
The Trustees have made the decision to keep monthly subscription costs the same for the year 2025/2026 however we believe an increase must be put in place for 1[st] April 2026.
Overall, the Group’s financial position is improving year on year. There are ongoing plans to apply for grants and funding to enable the Group to upgrade the toilet and kitchen facilities, with group contributions required.

7a Squirrels
Squirrel Section Report March 2024– April 2025
The Squirrels have had a fantastic year and have had a strong focus on fun, friends and badges, we have had a slight reduction in numbers this year but are sitting happily at 18 young people, this is mostly due to a limited number of adult helpers, but we are hoping this will improve for the next year.
Our year has been jam packed, full of a combination of adventurous activities such as hiking, archery, tomahawks and climbing, to the slightly calmer activities such as baking, first aid, gardening, crafts and so much more. The squirrels have been lucky enough to also have lots of exciting trips out of the hut this year we have visited Lee Library where we learnt how the library works, where different styles of books are stored in the library and most importantly how to care for our books. We visited Rock Up where we had great fun climbing all the different walls and playing in the soft play. We have also met with other Squirrel Dreys, in August we were invited to join 4[th] Gosport for a Picnic on the beach, unfortunately the weather altered the plans, and we ended up having an indoor picnic with lots of games, but we still had great fun. Other adventures out included trips to the beach, the local park and Marwell Zoo.
The Squirrels have also had opportunities to attend numerous sleepovers and camps. In June 24 we attended the District Camp where they had the opportunity to do so many activities including climbing, archery, inflatables, soft play, dancing, caving and loads more. In September 2024 we held a Squirrel sleepover at the hut, where we made our own pizzas for dinner, had a film night, made some bracelets and badges and even visited the ice cream shop for a tasty treat. Most recently we had our spring camp where the children had a fantastic time especially being with the older sections.
After all their hard work and fun, we have had the absolute pleasure to award 13 Acorn Awards which is the highest award you can get in Squirrels and presented over 300 activity badges. This is an incredible achievement! Keep up the good work Squirrels!!
We are incredibly proud of how much the Squirrels have achieved over the past year and we can only see them gaining more confidence as we look forward to next year. We have more events, more activities and more trips planned for them, it’s looking to be a fantastic year.
Lastly, I would like to say a massive thank you to Kathryn, Ellen, Zoe, Emily and Phoebe and all the parent volunteers for all your help with Squirrels over the past year we couldn’t have achieved what we have without you.
Yours in Scouting Jodie Warner Squirrel Leader

7b Beavers
Beaver Section Report March 2024 – April 2025
Neverland Beavers
Neverland Beavers have had another brilliant year, the children have had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, day trips, camps and events.
The Beavers have enjoyed an action-packed year including activities such as First Aid, Tomahawks, Archery, Hiking, Games, experiments and so much more. This last year we have been working hard towards some of our activity badges including communicator, disability awareness and our space badge. We have also started looking at some key camping skills like fire building, pitching tents and making our beds lots of skills that encourage independence.
We have also had some brilliant trips out of the hut to Rock Up, Paulton’s Park, Splash Park, the local beach, and the Coastguard
We had a great attendance for our Group Spring Camp and the District Camp, almost every Beaver attended a camp or sleepover during the year, they had an incredible time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
This year I have had the pleasure of awarding over 500 Activity and Challenge Badges and 12 Bronze Awards which is the highest award you can earn in Beavers, this award takes a lot of hard work so massive well done!
Overall, we as a leader team are super proud of how well the Beavers have done this year and we look forward to what next year brings.
Lastly, I would like to say a massive Thank you to Zoe, Kathryn, Ellen, Anne, Kieran, Jon, Emily, all our DofE helpers and all other parent helpers without you we would simply not be able to offer the variety of activities we do to the Beavers.
So, Thank you
Yours in Scouting Jodie Warner Beaver Leader

Narnia Beavers
Our little group has grown in numbers we now have 20 Narnia beavers. The children have grown massively in confidence and are trying new things all the time. Myself, Kathryn and Emma have enjoyed watching them make new friends, build relationships and work together as a team.
Over the last year they have taken part in many activities and attended district and winter camps. They have been to Paulton's park, Rock Up and Lyons Copse climbing wall. We have had trips to the beach and the local parks to tie in with our badge work.
They have completed cooking, food testing, Robot building, safety and disability awareness to name just a few. They have learned camp skills and loved the backwards cooking, especially the smore's.
They have attended Remembrance Service and St George's parades looking very smart and making their Leaders very proud.
We have a trip to the splash park with chips and ice creams planned for the last meeting in July, paid for by the children raising the money themselves by buying ice poles at the end of the meeting for 20p, this has been good for their money awareness skills, and they are all looking forward to the treat.
Many thanks.
Anne Wearn Beaver Leader

7c Cubs
Cubs Section Report March 2024 – April 2025
Over the past year, our Cubs group has been actively engaged in a variety of meetings and events that have greatly contributed to the development and enjoyment of our young members. Among the significant past meetings were the Summer Party and Welcome Back Games Night, which set a pleasant tone for the newcomers and returning Cubs. There were several themed activities like Archery and Rifles, Taskmaster challenges, and Personal Safety sessions, alongside events that celebrated cultural days such as Day of the Dead and Chinese New Year/Burns Night. The Cubs also participated in outdoor activities like Climbing at Lyons Copse and a Fossil Hunt, fostering skills in a fun way.
In terms of events, the Cubs had an exciting year highlighted by a successful Summer Camp and various other activities such as the Christmas in Lee festivities, Cub Christmas Party, and the St George's Day Parade. The Gosport GangShow was another event where the Cubs showcased their talents and spirit. Additionally, they took part in the Junior Park Run Fundraising, demonstrating their commitment to community involvement. Throughout the year, we also celebrated the hard work and achievements of the Cubs by awarding 12 Chief Scout Awards, a notable accomplishment that reinforces their dedication.
We would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the leaders who have worked tirelessly throughout the year. Your guidance and commitment have made a tremendous difference in the experiences of our Cubs, leading them to these accomplishments.
Looking ahead, there are exciting plans for the upcoming year with both a Summer Camp and a District Camp on the horizon. These events will provide further opportunities for growth, adventure, and camaraderie among the Cubs.
As we reflect on this year, we also appreciate the contribution of each child, who brings joy and enthusiasm to our meetings. Your energy inspires the leaders to create engaging and memorable experiences. We also express our gratitude to the parents for their continuous support and the vital behind-the-scenes work that helps our group run smoothly.
We look forward to another fulfilling year in Scouting!

Scout Section Report March 2024– April 2025
Scouts have had a very active calendar of the last 12 months with numbers currently at 31. Having had 5 Scouts feed into the Lee Land Explorer section, and several feed in from Cubs.
The Scouts have had more of a focus on badge work this year after last year's great experiences. Most recently achieving the electronics badge. As always our year has included some of our staple activities such as Archery, Kayaking and cooking.
As is scouting tradition we have run and attended numerous camps over the last year, including a combined Summer camp with the Cubs, with a week staying at Walton Firs where the scouts took part in Caving, Crate Stacking, Climbing, Low Ropes, Nightline, Swimming with the most exciting being a day trip to Chessington World of Adventures. As well as attending a Spring Camp at Lyons Copse.
A selection of scouts have represented the group in various competitions such as Lightweight Hike and one of the hardest challenges, the Elles Camping competition, this sees the scouts setting up their own camp, cooking their own meals, completing some mini challenges throughout the weekend and then fully breaking down the camp. Well done to everyone involved in those two major competitions, with the Lightweight team placing highly and winning the First Aid competition for the year.
We only ask for full attendance to 2 events throughout the year. The Carol Service and St Georges Day. A big Thank you to all the scouts that have attended these important events. As a leadership team we are in a great place. With Martin and Chris stepping in to help bolster our already brilliant team. Thank you to all the leaders to come when they can or every week, every hour you can help is highly appreciated.
Yours in Scouting
McClay Manktelow Scout Leader
