NEWTON FARM COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT

The trustees present their report and the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31[st] March 2025.

AIMS AND CHARITABLE PURPOSES

To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Newton Farm and the neighbourhood without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race, political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the inhabitants and other local public and voluntary organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants; To establish and maintain a community centre in furtherance of the above objects. To promote such other charitable purposes as may from time to time be determined.

ACTIVITIES AND DEVELOPMENTS

Services and facilities provided over the past year:

On 31[st] March 2024 the charity’s related company, Wye’s Buys Community Interest Company, ceased trading separate to the charity and was incorporated within the charity. The assets of the company were transferred to the charity, as the Asset Locked Body specified in the company’s Articles of Association.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

The past year has seen a number of changes for Newton Farm Community Centre (NFCA). We employed a volunteer co-ordination to oversee and support volunteers. We have found this role invaluable for the community.

Our volunteers have worked hard with their range of ideas, creativity, kindness and fun to keep the Association running and to ensure the services we provide are maintained.

The Community provides quality goods at affordable prices. All goods are donated, and the shop itself is run on a voluntary basis, supported by a shop supervisor and the Volunteer Coordinator. Always a friendly atmosphere welcoming customer to obtain affordable second-hand goods with a steady increase in takings.

The Community Hub offering various activities for the local community and volunteers. This continues to grow in strength with some days seeing a 50%+increase in numbers using the hub. We have increased the services, activities and have taken users on local cinema and music sessions.

The Board of Trustees have met for the required number of times as set out in our Constitution. Again, the Trustees have provided guidance and support throughout the year for the staff, volunteers and community, ensuring that the Association meets and fulfils its’ legal obligations.

RESERVES POLICY

The Association holds a reserve account in order to mitigate the risk of the charity closing down; the reserves contain the amount of money required to ensure that no debt would be left as a result of this.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF NEWTON FARM COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31[st] March 2025 which are set out on pages 4 to 7.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and the seeking of explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements:

have not been met;

or

to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
