ETRRT ANNUAL REPORT 2020/21

1 This is the annual report of the Trust for the year 2020/21. The Trust was established in 1999 in order to provide and manage a new sports and community pavilion associated with the use of the Thursley Road Recreation Ground in Elstead, with the objective of providing recreational and leisure facilities for the inhabitants of Elstead and the surrounding area.

. 2 The following were appointed as members of the Trust’s Management Committee at the 22[nd] annual meeting of the Trust held on 17 September 2020:

3 Mrs Bridget Lincoln was co-opted to the Management Committee and elected Secretary. The Management Committee members elected Mr Murphy to continue as Chairman and Mr Keith as Treasurer. 3 meetings of the Management Committee were held during the year.

4 The main activities of the Trust during the year were those of managing the use of the new pavilion by the user groups and casual hirers. These activities were dominated by the outbreak of the Covid pandemic, which led to the closure of the building from March until July and partially from October until the end of the FY. Income from the user groups accordingly declined substantially. This decline was however more than offset by a Covid compensation grant of £10,000 from Waverley Borough Council (payable to all similar community facilities) and the cancellation of business rate payments. As a result, the Trust ended the year with a modest £2,134 profit, which has increased the Trust’s cash balance to £14,077.

5 A further consequence of the Covid pandemic was the decision to close the peter Pan pre-school, a local charity which had operated a pre-school in the village for over 50 years. This decision was taken by the Peter Pan committee, with regret, in the light of falling pupil numbers and the increased pressures on management resulting from the pandemic.

6 As a result of Peter Pan’s closure, the Trust advertised the pavilion facilities for use by other providers. Rainbows Nursery proved to be the successful bidder and has occupied the premises since October 2020.

Rainbows occupation has enabled the Trust to hire out the building on weekday evenings, which has provided useful additional income which will be fully reflected in subsequent years accounts.

7 In association with Elstead Parish Council, the Trust launched in early 2021 a campaign to raise funds to install a borehole at the Thursley Rd Recreation Ground to provide much needed irrigation water for the site. The campaign proved to be a great success and the borehole has now been drilled and is in operation (July 2021). The accounts for 2020/21 show the amounts raised for the borehole installation in the FY.

8 All of the work of the Trust is carried out by volunteers. No payments, even of expenses, were paid to members of the Trust during the year.
