ACHIEVEMENT ANO PERFORMANCE
For the second year runnlng Play to the Crowd broke Ihe record for the hlghesl lickel sales revenues In
Theatre Royal Wlnchesler's history, despite the ongoing cosl of living crisis. This year also saw more
performances and more people allend Theatre Royal Wlnchesler than ever before with more than 82,500
people seeing work in the venue across 342 performances.
Oespile the shock of losing our National Portfolio Organisation INPO) slalus with Arts Council England IACEI
due lo the Government's levelling up agenda and despite a high scoring application which was highly
recommended for support, we still managed lo offer a Hal Fair Festival in 2023, albeit a lillle smaller.

We were delighted with the progrèss we made through Playmakers including in our first community hub in
Wickham, by championing our youth theatre's ovm original work, with our refugee communities and through
the SUPPOrt we were able to offer emerging artists and young people by plalformlng local lalenl.
Audience feedback, as gathered from post show questionnaire requests, has been very positive indeed onc8
8gain which is a real tribute lo our staff team and the quality of the work we present on our stage. Across
more than 3,000 responses counted there was an average score of 4,75 out of 5 for the shows and 4.65 out
of 5 for the venue experience with a whole range of glowing comments. This is even higher scoring than lasl
year's sample and repr&s8nt 8xlraordinarily high averages across such a large sample.

Overall In 2023-2024 Play lo the Crowd presented niore than 750 sep8r81e acllvi1Ses whlch allra¢led over
140,000 allendances. Of these, about 500 were direct performances to audiences numbering ovar 135,000
and 250 were participatory activities whlch allracted more than 5,000 participants.
Of the performancas, 342 werè in Theatre Royal Win¢hesler lagalnst a buslness plan largel of between 250
and 3001 and the rest were at Hat Fair or off sile during the year. Of these 342 Theatre Royal Win¢hesler
performances, 288 were professional performances (of which 57 were our own Panlomimel and 54 were
communlty performances.
Of the 135.000+ audiences, 82,500 allended performances al the theatre. This is the best allendance figure
for Theatre Royal Winchester on record.
35 educational establishments brought young people lo see a show, a third of whom had not brought their
students before. We also presented the work of 20 local community organisalions across the year.

year there were over 5,000 allendances to 250 participatory aclivilies. This includes our five regular Playmakers
Youlh Theatre groups who showcased Ihelr work al Hal Falr and al a Take Over Day in the theatre.
The H8t Falr Carnlval was another colourful success wllh many Ioc81 schools and communlty organlsatlons
partlclpatlng In costume workshops supported by New Carnival Comp8ny and our Playmakers team before
paradlng through the City lo mark the start of Hal Fair 2023.

Despite Ihe significant challenges of (ho on-going cost ol living crisis for our community and the costs of
running an enterprise such as this rising alarmlngly, we have managed lo complole the year with a small

Volunteers
Volunteers Continue lo make an Important conlrlbullon lo the runnlng ol Play lo the Crowd. Over 150 inciividu81s
contributed their lime voluntarily asslsling with Front of House, Marketing, Dislribulion and related aclivilies. Hal
Falr volunteers cover technical, fundraising and crowd marshalling 2clivilies. We estimate that in 2023-24 we
benefilled from over 5,000 worked volunleer hours. The in-kind value ol th& contribution of our volunteers across
the organisalion is Iherefore estimated al over £60,000. The Board is grateful for the contribution our volunteers

Recognition Policy has been approved by Iruslees during the course of the 2023-24 year and (his

The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit enlity under FRS 102, have
been prepared in aG¢ordance with the Charities SORP IFRS 1021 'Accounling and Reporting by Charities..

and Republic of Ireland, and the Companies Act 2006. The financial slalements have been prepared under
the hlslorical cost convenllon.
The lolal unreslricled funds of Play lo the Crowd, incuding the designal&d resloralion levy and unrestricted
fixed assets, as of 31 March 2024 sland al a posllive £833,245, up from a positive £767,923 the pr6VIOUS
yèar. In addillon there Is a posltive sum of £235,484 held on the balance sheet of reslrl¢led funds.
As at 31 March 2024 Play lo the Crowd had 8 n8t curr8nt assets position of £1,068,729.
For the year ended 31 March 2024 the Trust achieved a surplus of £9,770 and saw ils, Cash and Bank
balances increase lo £1,218,704. With a current focus on Iransformalion of the buslness lo further build
operational and financial resilience th6 Trustees are confident that the Trust will conllnue to achI8vè a nel
current asset position al 31 March 2025.
The Iruslees therefore believe the charily has sufficient resources lo continue in operational existence for
the foreseeable future and, on the basis of these budgets and forecasts, the Iruslees consider the
company lo be a going concern and have prepared Ihe financial slalernenls aGGordingly.
Group flnanclal statements
These financial slalemenls consolidate the results of the charity 8nd ils wholly owned subsldiary, Trade To
The Crowd, on a lino by line basis. A separate slalement of flnanclal acllvllles and Income and
expendllure account are not presented for the charSly Itself followlng the exempllons afforded by sectlon
408 of the Companies Act 2006.

All income is recognised in the Slalemenl of Financial Activities once the charity has enlillemenl lo the
