Report of the Trustees
The Trustees present their Report and Accounts for the year ended 31 August 2020.
Name and registration
The full name of the charity is Milton Keynes Islamic Society (hereinafter known as the “Society”). The charity was registered with the Charity Commission on 6th August 1989. The registration number is 1077040.
Aims and objectives
The Society aims to develop the cultural, social and religious life of the local Muslim community by promoting education, training and social life where Islamic values, practices and manners are encouraged.
The School of Islamic Studies (“SIS”) is the first stone of the Society. The mission of the SIS lies within the context of the Society’s mission, which is:
“To provide a stimulating Islamic educational environment of high quality that helps the children develop an Islamic identity and a sense of belonging to the Muslim community.”
Activities
Ø Educational activities include:

developing effective syllabuses and guidelines for the different programmes taught at the SIS,

· providing a wide range of activities for children such as academic lessons in Arabic and Islamic Studies, a sports’ day and Ramadan competitions,
-
providing useful books, literature and periodicals for members of the Society,

organising educational visits for children and their families,
-
arranging educational seminars, lectures and exhibitions
-
organising and carrying out Islamic Talks/seminars
-
All educational activities are mainly based at Southwood School in Bryony Close Conniburrow.

Appoint SIS school Management (2 years term minimum) and oversee its activities
Ø Social activities include:
-
organising social gatherings to strengthen the relationship between members of the community through fund raising activities
-
organising Eid parties, Conducting Nikah ceremonies & Islamic funerals
-
all activities are carried out through hired premises.
Ø Administration
The Office is currently the registered address of the Society which is used for administration and committee/trustees’ meetings purposes.
Due to Covid 19, all educational activities were delivered via on line as opposed to face to face.

No Trustee had any interest in the charity.
There have been no serious incidents to report under the Charity Commission guidelines.

Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities
The Trustees are responsible for preparing accounts each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the income and expenditure of the charity for the year. In preparing those financial statements, the Trustees are required to:

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

1. Accounting policies
a. Basis of preparation
The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with applicable United Kingdom accounting standards, the Statement of Recommended Practice on the Accounting by Charities and the Charities Act 1993.
b. Basis of consolidation
These accounts include the results of the Milton Keynes Islamic Society – Centre (“the Centre”) and the School of Islamic Studies.
c. Income
All income is accounted for when it is received.
d. Expenditure
All expenditure is accounted for when it is paid.
e. Fixed assets
Fixed assets are stated at cost, net of depreciation and any provision for impairment. Depreciation is provided on all fixed assets at rates calculated to write off the cost, less its estimated residual value, over its useful economic life, as follows:

f. Website costs
Mr Farhan Rais continues to maintain, update, design & develop the website and its contents free of charge to MKIS. The domain charge is paid annually.

5. Accruals
Nil for the year ended 31[st] August 2020 (Nil for the year ended 31[st] August 2019)
6. Creditors/Trustees and other related party transactions
Due to COVID 19, Level 1 & Level 2 Islamic classes were closed in term 3. As a result refunds have been processed to affected families which amounted to £3,338 hence the creditors’ balance on Balance sheet. The refunds were paid in September 2020 after getting bank details from those families.
The hire charges are agreed with the Southwood School on a yearly basis based on weekly hire. Due to covid 19, no rent incurred for Term 3 for the 2019/2020 as educational activities were conducted online to comply with government guidelines and lockdown rules.
7. Commitments
The Society did not have any material commitments not provided for in these accounts at 31 August 2020 (2019: none).
8. Guarantees
The Society did not give any guarantees to third parties that could be called on at 31 August 2020 (2019: none).
9. Security
The Society has not been granted any loans that are secured on any of its assets.
